Shoujoka has it right for US med schools. They don't care what major you have as long as you fulfill the prerequisite courses the med schools have. Check each one to see what each individual med school wants.

There's no such thing as a pre-med major. You can't graduate with a bachelors in pre-med. There are pre-med programs in which you get specialized counseling to make sure you fulfill those med school requirements, but you can still pick any major. It doesn't have to be biology. You can choose art as a major and still call yourself "pre-med" if you intend to go on to med school.

Not at all. You just have to take the required biology and chemistry classes. There should be someone at your school to talk to about the pre-med courses. I've actually heard lately from a few medical schools that they are looking for people that aren't majoring in biology, as it shows their diversity.

No. You can get a bachelor's degree in virtually anything and go to medical school, as long as you complete the science prerequisite courses: Usually 2 semesters each, with lab, of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. (Sometimes there are math and english requirements as well.)

It also depends which country. In the UK, you can go straight into a medical degree (or a law degree) without a first degree. Some American students, and Asians, come here (and to other countries like Belgium) to save money.
