its because more and more people are doing it... so when the masses commit it.. it becomes more common and over time more acceptable.

Lying is a pervasive issue because we set up a system in which the reward for lying is greater than the perceived risks. Student cheating is a good example. We place SO much emphasis on grades in this country (they only determine your entire educational and then professional future) that a kid who is struggling would be stupid NOT to cheat if he can get away with it. Or take your resume for example. Many, many people fudge their resumes because they know how competetive the job market is, and how few employers actually take the time to check their background. Joe Blow didn't graduate with a 3.8 in college, it was a 3.4. Not bad, but still just enough behind the curve that his 3.4 resume is more likely to find its way to the recycling bin than HR's yes pile. But a 3.8 puts him slightly ahead of the curve, and not many people check something so miniscule.

So many people don't value trust. When they're in trouble, they can't stand being unable to get someeone there. I know a man who got out of jail after ten years last August. Before that sentence there had bee a 7-year one. This man is 45 Now, after having a 17-year stretch, this man has the nerve to try calling me collect from jail a few days ago, then again today. That thing is that I just met the clown in November and realized the he doesn't want to emerge from this nonesense. He wants everyone to clean up his mess. This "man" is a minister's son.

Lying is so acceptable in today's society is because we as in the people that live on earth let lying over come the best in us and we set there and let it grow and grow instead of standing up and say your lying we weather set there and say nothing.

People lie to get what they want. Take Pres. G.W. Bush.. he lied to get this war started. Now he is lying about why it is still going on. Many people have already uncovered his other fiancial interest that are linked to this war.
And it is proof, that the higher ups seldom get punished for lying... even Clinton got busted but he did not loose his job. but if leroy fromt he mail room got the CEO's boss pregnant, and lied about it, he would be out on his **** without a job.

I think today we are full of doubt, the people we put in power promise us things, then the promises are broken, others think 'well if they can lie and break promises so can we' hence the situation we find ourselves in.
As a parent, I tried to teach my children not to lie, if the did something, then lied to me, then their punishment would be twice as bad, it made them own up, so instead of being grounded for two weeks, if they owned up straight away they would only be grounded for one week. Hopefully then don't lie very often.
Also I try to be as honest as I can, hopefully others will follow my way.

To me, the lowest of the low type of a person is a coward or a liar. I never accept lies when I know they're lies.
I don't go along with your case in point because I know of no lies that Bush has made. Oh sure, it's popular to say he lied about weapons of mass destruction. Any of us who are out of out teens know that Saddam used tons of poison gas on the Kurds.
Because some of those things were not found, does not mean that he didn't have them. Saddam had pleanty of time to hide thousands of tons of material in his country or ship it to one of the other Muslim countries.

Lying is so acceptable because it's so easy to do. We do it so much it's second nature. we're not even sure when we are telling the truth anymore.

because it permeates every layer of society.
colonists could "get one over" on native peoples by making promises and then changing the rules.
corporations can do almost anything without fear of punative actions, and if they get caught, they can lie their way out.
politicians make a career out of lying.
sales people make more money by omitting facts that might hinder sales.
clergy lie to maintain flock and try to win new ones.
pick a niche of society, you'll find institutionalized dishonesty somewhere.

you are so right, the bible says......
These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
A proud look, A LYING TONGUE, and hands that shed innocent blood,
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
A FALSE WITNESS THAT SPEAKETH LIES, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
