i have had to reinstall my Win XP. due to a virus.I have got sound & my mic IS plugged into the right socket. Also, the mic is not muted.Yet it doesnt work although it did work for a while. Can anyone help please?

Are you sure that it's not muted after you install WinXP? I know that it is set to mute as default. So when you re-install XP it may have reset it again to mute.

If it doesn't work, check the connection.

ok i had the same problem and i just solved it, so i hope it works for you, click:

start>all programs>accessories>
entertainment>volume control>
option>properties>tick Microphone>
ok>advanced mic properties>untick Mic2 Select>
close

my mic started working!

make sure in your audio properties, that the mike at using the sound card that you loaded drivers for.
