The Chinese famous fair-“China Import and Export Fair (the 101st in Canton Guangzhou)” will be opened in this April, from 15th –30th. Check the website: http://www.cantonfair.org.cn/en/index.asp
By then, almost all main factories will come to exhibit their products and you shall find the right suppliers.
If it is necessary, to set up one representative office is one easy and cost less way for you to develop the business. You can assign your staffs to supervise the suppliers production and supervise the quality of products.

Sure, you can check out GlobalSources.com or Alibaba.com, search for "baby textiles" and find hundreds of manufacturers in China. But based on my experience (which includes 10 years living in China, speaking fluent Mandarin, and working in manufacturing services, sourcing, and logistics) unless you have existing sales and are prepared to buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of product, there is absolutely no point trying to find a factory in China. Let me explain...

Factories in China cannot develop new products unless (1) you hold their hand through the process, and (2) they are convinced you will place large orders once they get the product right. You used the word "mass produce". To a factory in China that means Full Container Loads. Any factory you find in China is a contract manufacturer, meaning they have lots of different customers. They will give their attention to the customers that place the biggest orders. It takes a lot of time and resources for them to work with you to develop your line. Why would they do that unless they were convinced you were prepared to place large orders?

And, more importantly, even if they do agree to produce your line, you need to work very closely with them to get the product right. If you are not prepared to go to China and spend months there cumulatively then you might as well forget about "going direct". Emails and FedEx is not "going direct".

Not to mention there is no way to know that the "factory" you find on the Internet is really a manufacturer or a trading company or an outright fraudster.

You should only consider going direct once you have developed your market and you have substantial demand. Then you have some leverage over suppliers and the resources to handle going direct. Buying from China is a full-time business in itself. Vendor sourcing, new product development, materials sourcing, communications, production control, quality control, logistics & shipping, administrative support.... this is not your business. You are supposed to be in the business of selling, marketing and distributing your product. How can you grow your customer base if you are spending all your time trying to manage a sourcing and procurement business?

There are companies that do this function for a management fee. In the long run you will pay more trying to do it yourself than by hiring an expert to do it for you while you focus on selling - where the real money is. Give me a call if you'd like to discuss it: 212-847-7175 ChinatownSourcing.com.

Hi!

You want to visit "Asian Sources" and search for baby products and find a place that manufactures something similar or in the similar line of what you are looking for. Full contact information is there, and once you contact them, you can work out the details for manufacturing.

Remeber to register for an account! There is a link for that at the very tippy top of the page!
