crzywriter is wrong on this one.

It is an approximately 10.58% increase.

585-529= 56

56/529=.1058 x 10 = 10.58%

Now to show I am right...

529 + (529 x 10%) = 584.96

honcho_grande is correct. The formula for percent change (increase or decrease) is difference/original.

In this case, difference = 585-529 = 56, and original is 529. (Since we are looking for the percent increase, the lower number is the original.)

So, percent increase = 56/529 = 0.10586.

To convert that to a percentage, move the decimal point two places to the right and get 10.586% which is the answer.

I think there is a typo in one of the the correct answers above which may be confusing. The number "10" should be "100" in order to convert the decimal to percent.

The answer is 10.586 % , You didn't say if you need to consider significant figures.
