He would go to a juvenile detention center and would most likely be tried as an adult. And have lots and lots of psychiatric evaluations.

For a story there are many ways you can take this.
Maybe know finds out he did it but guilt eats at him and he can never succeed at anything he tries.
He calls the cops to tell them his mother isn't breathing and confesses to what he did. They get him into counseling and he learns how to control his temper and goes on to help other kids.
No one finds out and he thinks it's cool to get away with murder and becomes a seriel killer.
He is caught at the top of the stairs before his mother hits the bottom and his family blames him the rest of his life and even with couseling he grows up feeling like he should be dead and not his mom.
Heck just mull this one around for awhile to see what fits for your character.

In rhode island he would be sent to DCYF (child welfare) assigned a social worker and a councilor and be kept in juvenile hall until the age of 18 at which point he could either get out or be tried as an adult. He would probably get out though.

I would investigate the mother's history. There must be a LOT more to this story! A ten year old child who does something like that is trying to solve a problem.

they would say he did not know what he did so they would put him in counseling and he would be cured by 18, in america he would probably be illegal and so he would push her down the stairs and then skip across the border to return in 3-6 months as someone else

He would be tried in juvenile court, and if convicted of murder one, he would be sent to juvenile hall until 18.
That's in the US. In a Muslim country, he would be haled as a hero for killing a woman, then molested by his father.

I would say he's a deeply disturbed individual and this is the first in a serious of steps that leads to a lifelong incarceration in a heavy duty lockdown mental institution.

I believe he would still be charged with murder and go to reform school. It would not be first degree because it was not planned or meditated. but still murder none the less
