Why does what individuals do in the privacy of their bedroom, call for fulminations from the book-worshippers? Do fundies think they have some kind of right to pass judgment on the way the rest of us live our private lives?

The difficulty is that if they don't have other people's transgressions to babble about, they might be forced to look at their own.

Because they have their priorities all mixed up instead of focusing on issues that are more important. They also are afraid of people who are different from them, because accepting them would mean accepting change. People like this don't like change, obviously, since they closely follow rules from a book written over a thousand years ago.
Hypocritically, these same people don't mention or refuse to acknowledge that the bible has been re-edited several times throughout the history of man. Furthermore, a lot of them tend to pick and choose which parts of the bible they like.
We have to remember that the bible is not clear cut...it can be intepreted in so many ways, that there is no right way. Why do you think there are too many religions stemming off of the same book?

If you limited it to your "private lives" that would be one thing.
When you force it down OUR throats by making us accept it than that is another matter all together.
