Well, as you know, thanks to the War on Drugs, substance abuse in this country has declined to virtually nothing, so yes, it has worked.

Pretty much, considering that alcohol - one of the most abused substances - is legal and openly advertised in the US.

In other words, we "glorify" alcohol usage (yeah, yeah, I know they put the "moderation" message in there in small print), but we collectively act as though usage of ANY other substance is somehow a personal weakness. At the same time, we have a huge obesity problem. Have you seen the size of the latest fast food burgers?????

Basically, a lot of people desire the occasional "altered consciousness" and some would prefer to use a substance OTHER than alcohol; ie cannabis.

So, what's right and what's wrong?

What's the harm?

The problem is that a person either has a sense of moderation and self-control...or they don't.

The problem is NOT the substance.

Funny how so many people echo that epithet about handguns - the one about "guns don't kill people."

But we somehow cannot apply that same logic to recreational substances.

Why?

Depends how you define success. If filling jails with petty criminals is a success, then yes the war has been going quite well. If success is the elimination of illegal drugs from our society, then it is a total failure and complete waste of money. People will always find a way to catch a buzz and that is just the way it is. Always has been and always will be.

First, its "his on authentic". 2d, neither adult males have been mess ups, and on a similar time as Carter did no longer make for an incredible president, he's been between the main lively and sensible humanitarians this united states of america has produced. no person can take that from him. he's a robust individual. The drug conflict IS a complete failure, in case you seem on the prisons, highway drug interest and rehabs on my own, which could provide help to be attentive to all you are going to be attentive to.

I think it needs some work. I've been through a rehab program. I still want to be a dope head though. The one thing that prevents me from continuing with that life style is my daughter. If it were not for her I'd be just like the rest of the hopeless addicts. Actually, I do still have my addictions, they've just changed from illegal things to legal things. I probably need more therapy I'm sure, but oh well. I can say that I like drugs and alcohol....alot, but I wish I didn't.

having the prison system filled with non-violent offenders does little to correct the situation. as stated above me, people will find a way to get high even if they resort to sniffing paint.
there are links, however, to much crime that results from the need for money to support habits. meth is rampant throughout the nation and until the production of ephedrine is halted, the problem will only escalate. and if there's any greater menace to society than meth users, i'm unaware of what it might be. even rurally, as i am, i can cite incidences of violent crimes committed surrounding the use of that horrid crap.

Sadly so. Every night in the news there is a report of a meth lab blowing up or being raided. The sad thing is people are making the stuff in trailers and they have children in there with them!

Yes. And it will be as long as those who make that war keep consuming them and getting a profit.
