torwards a city - would you see the city upside down?

why would it be impossible to make out anything?

Yes. It would be pretty cool, but almost impossible to actually make out anything

First of all, there's no difference between what a camera would see and what your eye would see, so that's an unnecessary complication.

As for the orientation of the city, that depends on the orientation of the shuttle with respect to the earth and your orientation with respect to the shuttle.

In other words, it depends on your orientation with respect to the earth.

You could be oriented in such a way that cities on the 'top' part of the earth looked upside down, or sideways or right side up, or any degree of rotation.

You don't have to spend $10,000,000 on a shuttle
cruise ticket to make such a picture. Just turn your
camera upside down and shoot.
