No, I'm not, but I did meet many people through the career I chose that have been afraid. You hit the nail on the head when you asked the question. Afraid to Try=Afraid to Fail. But it can be overcome with counseling yet sometimes it comes through awareness alone. This problem is usually seen in children who have been "groomed" for success and feel the onus to be everything their parents want them to become.

Every individual, including our own children, needs to feel the freedom of being young and being capable of deciding their own fate. They also need other activities that are not competitive such as scouting or music lessons. They are under too much pressure as it is. You must decide what is too much and what is enjoyable. It's worth examination and all roads to health lead there. Too many expectations and/or competition is where problems begin.

You might also make sure no drugs or sexual conduct without responsibility is in your teens life right now. They often turn to drugs and alcohol because it relieves the stress. We call this Secondary Symptoms and it must be addressed. Depression begins here and you need to provide sincere compliments your teen will accept, rather than complimenting their potential. I wish I had the opportunity to talk to you personally because I am very familiar with this problem and I spend most of my time trying to relieve the stress of daily living on others and then myself at P&S to relax. Good Luck!! Be Positive and Look Up!! People Can Become Overcomers and so can you!! @80)
