Access is a very powerful software tool. In my business, the people that have Access skills are in high demand. Learn more than just the basics though, there is a lot of programming that can be done in Access to give it more functionality. I use Access regularly and it has both enhanced my ability to perform certain aspects of my job and gives me a performance edge.

I would add to that to also learn at least some Visual Basic or similar through the Visual Studio line of software as well. This combined with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Access, and even Microsoft Office in general as well, can lead to a very productive area where you can create custom office applications for the company you are employed by to use that can interoperate with Access, Word, Excel, etc.

It depends on which areas of employment you are entering. Personally, I've been searching for clerical/office support positions and just today I came across two jobs preferring Access experience.
I come across that requirement at least once a week in my job search so far.

More so if you are dealing with inventory. Or any industry that needs large database of information that does not need complicated functions.
