the fast food industry is not at all responsible for the health of its customers, the customers should know by now, it is public knowledge that fast food is bad for you and if they still choose to eat there it is their own fault. It's not like fast food has a monopoly on the food industry, go to the grocery store and make something at home. There is no excuse for eating fast food and making fast food responsible for the choice you made. You have free will, use it.

I beleive it is the responsability of the fast food industry to ensure that the ingrediants of their products are as healthy as possible. For example (this isn't fast food but my point will be proven) potato chip companies are now switching the oil the chips are fried in to sunflower oil. This ensures a lower intake of trans fat.

Fast food companies such as (mcdonalds) are now printing nutritional information on their food boxes and allowing different options for child meals, both of which are a step in the right direction.

However more changes need to be made. The oil should immediatly be changed, I beleive a whole grain bun should be offered for their patty sandwhiches at some additional cost, and any one food item has more than 500 calories the company should look into the ingrediants to find an alternative lower calorie ingrediant or lessen portion size.

Overall fast food companies are not really responsible for their health however, they should care enough to make an effort to help healthier choices be made and commercials should not be developed for the sole purpose of gaining child patrons.

In the end it is the consumers responsability to make healthy choices for themselves. After all we could purchase and make just as unhealthy food from the grocerystore. Because they offer those products doesn't necessaraly mean we need to use them. The best fight against obesity in America is improved health classes in schools and community centers to make sure that everyone in the USA is an informed consumer.

To no extent. Everyone knows that fast food isn't good for you, so why should the industry be responsible if you choose to go eat it? People need to start taking responsibility for their choices and stop blaming everyone else for their problems. Like that lady who spilled the coffee...I mean seriously, do you think she really didn't know that the coffee was hot? Why is it McDonalds fault she's an idiot?

Hate to say it, but the only responsibility they really have is to be completely truthful and forthright as to the nutritional content of their food. As the movie Supersize Me quite rightly pointed out, McD's never used to make that information available to it's customers. Even when they did, they would often hide it behind signs, or only provide it upon request. After the movie came out, of course, they put that info out for the world to see, and started introducing healthier options on their menu. It's the fast food places that lie about their cooking processes or food content that are to blame. Other than that, it is up to us to use our common sense and make healthy choices.

(1) To the extent that the law mandates that they should be responsible; and

(2) To the extent that their executives feel would benefit their shareholders.

Same as any listed company anywhere in the world buster.

It is a major resposibility if that's the business they choose to be in. That is if your discribing the health regarding health dept. regs, however if your speaking about healthy diet choices on the menu that goes back to the customers free choice.

to be honest u really can't blame them they r trying to make a buck like the rest of us. We as consumers should do a better job of doing our own research on these issues. Just like smoking you know it's killing u but u still light up any way. Where does the burden of responsibility lie with the consumers?
