If you ask me, the answers in your questions may vary depending on the "class" or "status" or the people your talking with. If your talking with your boss, would you not be serious when he is talking to you, even if he doesn't have your respect towards him? If your close friend is not serious about his/her answers, does this mean that he does not respect you?
Seriousness of a person (especially towards a friend) will always vary according to his mood or feeling. Sometimes, we feel that we are not taken seriously because the person is always joking around. Besides, we can always feel whether you have his/her respect.
We can never assess one's respect by their "level of seriousness" to us. One may always joke around, but respects you a lot.

That depends on several things. who is the person that is not taking you seriously? Is this a person who's opinion you respect? Do you REALLY have something to prove to this person? If so, then if they are not taking you seriously, Ask them why not. You never know unless you ask. Or perhaps this person may not take you seriously because they don't take anything seriously. Then there's nothing you can do about that. But the bottom line is if someone is playing head games with you, then they are an ******. Period. There's no good reason to mess with someone else's mind.
I'd avoid this person altogether if I were you.

I think this kind of person is looking at life from a totally different perspective from the normal ones, and not necessarily a good perspective. I mean that it might be interesting to see life as a game, or as "all the world's a stage, and we are but actors", or something else along that vein. However, the play has to be played well, not by any rules your "someone" wants to make up. And playing head games is just a form of control, bullying, or domination. He or she seems to believe s/he knows it all and is superior to you. Or else feels inferior and needs to put other people down. Either way, a person to avoid.

if they don't take you serious and play head games, well, that does seem like a major lack of respect which is necessary for any relationship, be it friends, lovers, or work.
there is the potential that over time you have had/shared mis-information and they are aware of this, and therefore want to remain associated with you, but can't pass this along.
no one is as brilliant as they think they are
so, that's my two cents, where's my penny? hey... you're making a profit on all this...even a penny at a time, it's still a profit... lol

Many people are afraid to take themselves seriously because that would mean looking at their own inadequacies.
If they were able to take you seriously, they would probably be able to, not only respect you more, but themselves as well.
A person who is constantly making everything a joke and playing head games is usually a person with low self-esteem.

Everything in the light is revealed... full disclosure banishes games. I take my job seriously, I take myself not so serious. I can make a mistake, it is oK. So can others. Directness beats a circle to the objective, circle and make the straight line ok.
Hee, hee... weird mood I guees.

If they take you seriosuly, it definitely SHOWS that they respect you more, but then again, you don't really know what is going on in a person's head. Some people have difficulties showing and expressing how they feel. I don't know, really. It's one of those things that you just have to figure people out to really know what they are thinking or feeling. Good luck to you!

I think that people who play mind games trying to prove who has a higher interllectual level are pretty pathetic and those who play whose games already lose by trying. It shows immaturity--only a wise person will listen to ALL points of views even if he disagrees--because a wise person is always open to new wisdom.

Yea I think it is just plain respect to take someone seriously except if there is something wrong with that person or they are always joking around.
