Most of the time I am an optimist.
Once in a while I forget and bum myself out for a while, then I remember that I am the one making it all up so I might as well make up something positive.

Depends how I'm feeling. For example if I've just had a bad day at work, then i tend to be pretty pessimistic. If on the other hand its a weekend, and I've just woken up the sun shining then I tend to pretty optimistic. I suspect you would find the same for most people.
The important thing to realize about trying to fit people into categories is that they won't fit. This is not to say don't put people into categories, you do need to, but you will also have to accept that people will change categories, or fit into more than one, or possibly even none, and that the categories themselves are somewhat arbitrary.

Both! I'm a realist!
I used to be very negative, I'm learning to be more positive. I'm either a reformed pessimist or a cautious optimist. Hoping for the best, prepared for the worst, I enjoy my life's journey & deal with whatever comes my way.
Some people look to the sky, some toward the ground. I look straight ahead, adjusting my perspective as needed. Sometimes the glass is half full, sometimes it's half empty. I believe that there is both beauty & ugliness in life. I try to focus on the beauty these days...

I'm a realist who leans toward the skeptical side. Pessimist means negative to me, so I don't like to say that about myself.
