Ok, let's go point by point.
First, if you are collecting dividend checks, then you are paying the same taxes as everyone else because dividends are taxed as ordinary income. Dividends are taxed twice: once as corporate income taxes, then they give you a smaller amount (because the rest went to the government) and then when you pay taxes.
The income is not unearned. You had to work to horde the investments; you are only living off of the fruits of your deferred gratification. If you are talking about capital gains, it is still double taxation because the money you invested was taxed before you invested it.
Actually, inheritance taxes are higher than ordinary income taxes at 55%.
I worked hard for seventeen years, paid my taxes and retired at 38. While the rest of my friends were barhopping, I was working. While the rest of my friends were buying nice furniture, I had a mattress on the floor. While the rest of my friends were making payments on nice cars, I drove a jalopy. While my friends racked-up credit card debt, I invested prudently. When girls would shoot me down because they thought I was a bum, they would end-up with a flashier guy who was up to his eyeballs in debt. I deferred gratification, now the government is punishing me for the sacrifices I made.
I'm not at all resentful of the poor. In fact, I spend my spare time helping the VERY poor, on-the-street drug addicts. In fact, I think the tax code does more to punish the poor than anything else coming out of Washington.
I don't resent the idle rich at all; I count myself among them and I worked my @ss off to get here.

Your investments that draw dividends keep working capital in the companies that provide jobs for us. You used your brain to invest wisely. I respect that. The tax codes encourage investment and entrepreneurship because that's what keeps America going. I'd like to see a flat tax, but I don't resent you for using the existing codes to your advantage. I'm glad your parents invested wisely as well instead of spending it all on buying you IPODs and Nike gear. Actually, I'm just proud that you are still in touch with both your parents instead of having a deadbeat dad that abandoned you as so many poverty-level children have. Keep going strong.

I don't resent you because I love people like you. Your bitter hatred of people of faith and anyone who disagrees with you promotes the ignorance of liberal America, the real enemy. You carry around a lot of hate sir, it must eat you up. The majority of people that I know who lean towards what you call the right are the most tolerant and non hateful people I have ever met.

Why should anyone resent you ?? A person in your circumstance is more apt to be disliked by the Democratic Party.. So, keep spending that non-earned cash and keep the economy growing so others may work.....

No resentment here...the 'idle rich' pay the greatest dollar amount in taxes (this is not to say that they pay the greatest percentage of their net worth) and therefore are major contributors in keeping this corrupt socialist scheme in operation.
The socialists really should be praising the rich guy, since he is funding their wet dreams.

Most rich democrats and republicans block legislation that hurts the idle rich. They don't want to tax people who are already wealthy and part of their exclusive country clubs. They tax people trying to get rich to keep that "hick-done-good" new money OUT of those places. That's why they favor "progressive" taxation.

Why would you be resented. Do you feel undeserved of wealth? If so, give it away. Write the IRS a check as a donation. They will be happy to accept.
If you don't want to put your money where your mouth is, just keep on being a hater.

That's America for you. It's why I am proud to live here.
If you get money, you can keep it, even if you didn't earn it.
Good thing the Liberals aren't in charge, or you'd be paying some major taxes on YOUR money.
