Heard of PROZAC?? It took doctors 20 plus years to find out all the problems it caused. The anti-depressant that causes one to become suicidal!!! Yeah.
We do not know what we will find out in the future about all kinds of drugs/medications!! I think that the only thing we can do; is to try to decide what is reasonable. If you have been suicidal: taking the zoloft may be for the best.
Although we do not yet know the effects of the zoloft on our children, we do know that there are some situations that without an anti-depressant; there are some women who would never live to give birth...... so both the women & their children will die.
Oh yes, it is a difficult decision. I've been there, done that. I was placed on an anti-depressant when I was pregnant however; I was suicidal. At that time, I don't know that I could have made it through my pregnancy without the anti-depressant. My daughter is now 9 years old & is fine!!! Yet, I do not know what her future may hold due to the anti-depressant that I took while I was pregnant??

I just read an article on Zoloft and pregnancy (Magazine name was Pregnancy & Childbirth) and it said Zoloft was OK. That the harm dome by not treating depression was worse. I am personally taking Prozac and it is working well for me. Pharmacists are not physicians. Physicians are not pharmacists. BUT I think if your OB prescribes it, he/she should know best -believe me, you are not the 1st depressed pregnant person they've seen. Where as your pharmacist may have never even have had close 1 on 1 contact with a pregnant person personally or professionally. If getting a second opinion makes you more comfortable, then you should seek it. I would 1st call my Dr who prescribed the meds and explain your concerns and ask what your risk is after the warning you recieved from the pharmacist.

I think you should get a second opinion from another doctor. Doctors are human too and they make mistakes just like we do. It is best to err on the side caution. I believe that Zoloft is a "Category C drug", which means that there are not enough studies to say whether it will be harmful to a fetus. It can also mean that the studies that were conducted were found to be inconclusive. Basically, no one can say for sure if this drug is harmful to your child or not, so it is up to your discretion whether you use it or not. I really think that you should talk to another doctor. Good Luck!

NO! Please get a 2nd opinion. I was given Zoloft after my pregnancy for post pardum depression, and it said on the pamphlet that you were not to take it during pregnancy. Trust me, as a mother to be, if something does not sit right with you, by all means get a second opinion, then a third, forth, and fifth if you need to. Secondly, Zoloft causes sleepiness. That's the LAST thing you need right now. Best wishes

Do not take it. Try and get out of the house more and find some friends to try and help you out. It's not worth potentially harming your baby for. It'll only be another five months, and if u need the drug then..take it i guess..I wouldn't put my unborn baby at risk for birth defects.

i am a doctor and i feel that if your doctor said it was okay to take then take it. yes i may have caused birth defects in rats but we as humans are not rats!! sure there may be a chance that it causes birth defects but those chances are VERY slim.
