I wouldn't try soy formula. I tried it with my son and it made him worse. I would recommend you start infant massage. Use the massage technique to reduce colic. It helps move the gas and waste through the intestines and out of the baby. It is SUCH a lifesaver.

My first suggestion would be trying soy formula. If that doesn't help, this may seem strange, but try a formula that doesn't have the DHA/ARA added. My daughter had a very bad reaction to the DHA. She was gassy, spitting up, very fussy for the first 4 1/2 months of her life until I tried a formula without DHA and she became a new baby overnight. I think that there's only a few still out there: Good Start Essentials, Enfamil (not Lipil), Similac (not Advance), Isomil (not Advance). Good luck!

You'd still have a great shot at relactating. That would be the best "formula". If you'd like some info, feel free to email me.
Other than that... Soy is tricky. Theres alot of controversy surrounding it. Think about it: women use soy to replace estrogen durring menopause. What they take is no where near the amount a infant fed soy gets in a day. It is said that an infant fed soy formula exclusivly takes in about 5 birth control pills worth of estrogen everyday. Scary facts.
Latose intollerance wouldn't be the issue. Lactose intollerance is VERY rare in babies and you would have a very nasty diaper rash on your hands and your baby would be "failure to thrive".
The problem with dairy is casein: the cows milk protein. Its alot larger than the human milk proteins and its hard for tiny babies to digest (I can't even digest it and im 23!).
Soy is an option, but do your research on it first and make sure you know all the risks going in. As i said, relactation would be the ideal, but... you just have to look at your priorities. There is also pre-digested formula... super-expensive and ive heard it smells/tastes REALLY bad. This is all something you want to talk to your doctor about.
Again, if you want more info, feel free to email me.

first of all, GOOD LUCK!! My last baby had problems with gas until she was 4 1/2 months. My best advice to you is from a friend of mine. This may sound a little weird, but she had to do this for her baby and they are both much happier now!--------Put your child on juice for 2 or 3 days. No milk. I know that sounds wrong, but it's ok. Dilute it a little with water. Then start a soy, lower iron formula. Also go to a herb shop and purchase "gripe water" It works great and helps with gas, constipation, stomach pain, and even hicups.

Infants just have gas. My son has it bad too. Mylicon drops are very helpful, but I don't use them a lot. I just move his legs back and forth towards his tummy, applying just a tad bit a pressure and he starts farting up a storm, and i get all kinds of smiles. Also try adding a little more water to his bottles. Say if he's on four ounces go a little above that with water and still do the two scoops of formula. Good Luck...

whilst my son replaced right into a toddler, he have been given gas plenty, and it made his abdomen sense not undemanding. i'm a company believer in mylicon drops and tylenol. If he's in crying in soreness, attempt the mylicon drops first, get them at walmart interior the toddler branch, if that doesn't restoration it, supply him tylenol, yet provided that his usual practitioner says it somewhat is ok to furnish it to him and that he recommends a dosage on your toddler. some babies are constipated plenty. a number of them get constipated from the rice cereal being blended too thick. different issues could reason it as properly. you may attempt apple juice, that makes you poop, if that doesn't do it, supply him a sort of enimas which you will get at walmart. it's going to make him poop in the present day. so which you terrific try this with him sitting on outstanding of a diaper in case you do it. If all else fails, ask your mom, mom in regulation, or what have you ever, or his usual practitioner. It does not sound like an emergency. a large form of previous different halves thoughts are certainly authentic.

My daughter had to be on soy. It worked for her. Talk to the doctor to help with this.
For the gas you can make some fresh mint tea, add a little bit of sugar and let it cool, put some in the bottle. Give it to the baby. The mint tea helps with the gas... it really works. I used it on all three of my babies and a couple of nieces. The baby only needs a little of the tea so once the baby realizes that he doesn't like it... he has probably gotten enough.
You can pick up mint tea leaves at the grocery store, boil it in water for about 5 minutes, let it cool. add a little sugar and your done. It will be a greenish tan color. When it looks like that you are good to go.
Good luck to you and your little one.

My son was the same way. I had to use infant suppositories to help him go. My next door neighbor was an older lady and she told me to add a small amount of corn syrup to his bottles, and low and behold it worked. He started going easier. I also switch him to soy formula. All three of my kids drank soy formula...I think it is better.

my boy was the same way and we would gently hold his feet and push knees up toward belly to move the gas out. My husbands granny swears by Karo syrup-- a good teaspoon to about 4 oz of water twice a day to help soften stools and releive gas. This worked better than the gas drops for us. As for formula I cannot help you there as I breast fed both my children.
