There are several ways to reset a Windows Administrator password. Below are three examples.
◙ First you have to decide whether you have Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional Edition. If you don't know you can easily find that information this way.
1. Open the Start Menu
2. Right-click the My Computer icon and click on Properties.
3. The version will be listed there in that page's System Area.
◙ How to reset the Administration password for Windows XP Home Edition.
1. Restart (click Start Menu > Turn Off Computer > Restart) your computer.
2. Press F8 repetedly until the Boot Mode menu appears.
3. Start Windows XP in the troubleshooting mode by selecting "Safe Mode".
3. When the Widows Logon screen appears, a new user account appears at the top called "Administrator".
4. Logon with that account which rarely needs a password.
5. Once you are in go to the Control Panel and reset your password.
◙ How to reset the Administration password for Windows XP Professional Edition.
1. When the Windows XP Logon screen appears, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE twice very quickly.
2. Type "Administrator", and leave the password box blank and you are usually allowed to enter.
◙ Didn't that work for you? Well there is another way you can try. You can go to the web site below and download a program that will grab your encrypted password file. Get the information from that program and email the info to the web site and in a day or two you'll get your password back.
◙ TIP: You can get you password back in a few minutes if you give them $20.

◙ The source of this information was "PCs, The Missing Manual". If you have Windows XP you really need to buy this wonderful book. It is worth every penny they are charging for it. Ipoders will find some helpful information here too.

◙ Your computer comes with built-in help files. To get password information click on the START BUTTON > HELP & SUPPORT > SEARCH FOR "PASSWORDS". These help pages used to be a complete waste of time because they were so vague. But now they are very helpful. Back in the old days hard drive space was so small they really couldn't hold the huge cross-referenced help files we have today.

You can most likely boot into safe mode, log into the generic administrator account and create a new account or edit your current account.
To do this, you will need to hit the "f8" key a few times before the windowsXP splashscreen logo comes up when you are booting up.
From there, select "safe mode" and it will bring up a login for both you and Administrator. That Administrator account should not have a password associated with it.
If that does not work, you will want to bring it in to a service center to have the password reset.

First off learn to type and spell.
Second if you don't have a second account with administrator access you are SOL. There are programs to recover the password but they cost a bit of money.

If you have NTFS you wont be able to boot into Safe mode and bypass the password. You could use Knoppix to break the password but only if your computer is new/powerfull enough.
One way is to dump windows and get a good operating system such as Kubuntu for free at www.kubuntu.org.
Once you get the Cd, you can be online in 10 minutes!
