I don't know why these white people are answering this question. You'll find racism everywhere you go. Sometines you get some wierd lookks from some people but at the same time I have had good conversations with plenty of older white men. No worse than Chicago where I am originally from. Don't let there ignorance affect you. Stay Up!

Geez, I hate the phrase "where we are wanted." Just stop using it.

Look, I don't know where you're from, but Houston doesn't do that. So please stop making out like we're a bunch of illiterate rednecks who go for weekly crossburnings. It irritates most actual Houstonians. Houston is a laid back, tolerant, and EXTREMELY diverse city. People from everywhere live here, and we get along pretty well (except in traffic, but that's another story... then the middle fingers come out quite often). There is nowhere you or anyone else isn't "wanted."

Y'know, I take that back. Do me a favor and don't move your anti-Houston attitude to my neighborhood. I like this town; I like the people. I've lived here for decades. I don't need someone with a persecution complex moving in next door and badmouthing the rest of us.

EDIT: Sissy, above, is an ignorant moron. I doubt she could find Houston on a MAP OF HOUSTON. She's full of it. So is Erin.

i was born and raised on the texas gulf coast and lived in houston for 10 years. it's a common misconception that us southerners are intolerant of blacks, but i can tell you that's a bum rap on the people of houston. there are many cultures there, it's really a first class and very friendly city.

it's true that in the south, people tend to be a little more conservative, therefore less patient with people who don't want to work regardless of race, but trust me we're very accepting of all good people in every nationality or race. am i saying there are no racists in houston? of course not. but i've also lived in the northeast and midwest, and there are all kinds everywhere you go.

i'd recommend living around the galleria area. it's a little pricy but convenient to all kinds of entertainment, good shopping, lots of good companies, and nice apartments/neighorhoods. if you're raising a family and want to put your kids in suburban schools, any suburb except the east is good. south you have clear lake, pearland, and league city. north is the woodlands & spring. west is katy. all nice peaceful, quiet suburbs but not much in the way of nightlife or jobs. commuting from the suburbs is hell, i'll tell you that.

I know that it's bad north of Houston. I was eating lunch in The Woodlands one afternoon and the 2 (white) ladies beside me were talking about how wonderful The Woodlands is, "it's so white!" and I have friends who have a had run-ins with Klan members, not to mention that there was a Klan rally close enough to my house that I could hear their awful music.

Just stay in the city...it's when you go out to the country that you find less of a mix... same as any other large city...there is a pretty good mix of different races in Houston.

No bc African Americans outnumber all races in town so they can't be too critized! Personally all races not just AA are criticized for being the way they are so its all equal in my opinion. I love everybody! ;)

No. Black people have the right to go anywhere they want. If they go there with an open mind and not thinking race into stinking everything, things will go much better for them.

Texans hate everyone that is not from Texas. I visited from New York City and was abused every place I went. And I was a young beautiful blonde at that time, a model in fact. Everytime we get someone from Texas in the White House, we are off to war. Johnson took us to Vietnam, Bush Sr. to the Gulf, Bush Jr. to Iraq. If you are an outsider moving to Texas it doesn't matter what color you are, you will not be welcome. You had GOT to come up with a better solution than TEXAS!

why are you wanting to move to an area that you said yourself is known for not being friendly towards blacks?? That doesn't make any sense.
