vicks makes vapor rub and vaposteam. both are with menthol, which will dry out his runny nose. the vapor rub gets put on his chest and have a tee shirt over it. and you pour a cap full of vaposteam in the humidifier.
the other medicine that works well is kids chewable triaminic. Follow the directions on the box for dosages.
If he was under 2, I'd say take him to the doctor, but at 2 almost all kids medicines have a dosage chart for 2 and up.

Rub Vicks Vapor rub on his chest before bedtime. I don't know about giving a decongestant like (Sudafed) at the age of 2, ask a doctor about that. Just remember an Antihistamine like (Benadryl) is for allergies, and will not clear up a stuffy nose. You can also elevate the child's pillow a bit, maybe with a smaller pillow underneath. Elevating the chest of the child will help with breathing while trying to sleep.

Try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). I use the water right out of the warm tap, add some salt from a packet in my pocket.
Buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot
You can do this as often as you like with no side effects.
You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis. my 3 year old can do it.
For a 2 year old, you might try the "over the lap'; method with their face pointing to the floor over a cup.

I use mentholated rub for the chest and back. The kids usually squint because it makes their eyes water from the vapors, so you would want to wait until bedtime. I've also used menthol in the humidifier. Benadryl is an antihistamine that also works for runny noses related to colds. It helps the kids sleep. Elevate the head. Most children aren't bothered. They may frequently wake up during the night but usually fall right back asleep and don't remember a thing. Not like us adults.

before he goes to bed, clean his nose out really good, use the Little noses nasal spray, wait a minute and then have him blow until there's nothing left. Get a humidifier to keep in the room at night and use an extra pillow so his head stay elevated. (this will help his nasal passages to stay clear) I use the infants tylenol cold and cough medicine... it's the only medicine that I've found for an infant that works and is safe... I use half of the dosage for my daughter's weight before bed and it keeps her cleared up.

I used to use Vicks Vapo rub on my daughter when she was little and the stuff works. I also would prop her pillow up a little more so she wasn't laying flat.
