Peg him by the scruff of his neck to the washing line. Put a small bag over his head. Put a small hole in the bag so he can breath (Don't wanna harm him!). Tie lead weights to his legs. Leave him for a couple of hours until he stops wriggling. Now you can begin work.
Tip: Use only Arcrylic paints. Water based will wash off when he's out in bad weather.

Well, as it is a mural, I assume it is a big cat?

Can you put a harness on him and paint while you ride?
or
Paint the image you want in reverse on the wall, them throw him at it?

Personally, I would take a skin sample, then tinker with his DNA till I got the pattern I wanted growing in the fur.

Turn a chair upside down and place it on the table now tie (you might need help for this bit) tie a cat leg to each chair leg and place some books on the cats stomach and maybe a sedative, but speak soothingly and scratch under its chin for moral support, maybe a pillow for neck support.

Wait a bit till he has one of his several cat naps. Then try painting him in that pose. Or if you got a web cam or digi cam you can transfer to your computer do that. Hope that helps. Good luck. Other wise you have to wait till he gets really old, dies then get him stuffed. But that would not be the same.

Good luck with that one. That is the joy of being a cat: You get to be as difficult and you want. My advice: Don't stalk your kitty, just let him get comfortable and then do your stuff. You gotta settle for what your kitty's going to give you. Cats always have to be the powerful one.

Try fastening him to an easel - You could use staples or tape to fasten him on - Tape may take some of your painting off with it though when you remove him - Stick with staples

Stapling his feet to the floor can be so very messy, and, besides, it makes it hard to work on him, so I would suggest that you have him cryogenically frozen, paint him at your leisure, and - when you are finished - dethaw and enjoy!
