Guys are taught not to hurt girls. To tell a girl who loves him that he doesn't love her would be hurtful. It would make her cry and that would be his fault. So to avoid being the one to hurt her feelings, to avoid the guilt and the blame and the drama and the vitriol, he lies.
This of course is no way to carry on (or end) a relationship. I think it's more important for people to be authentic than inoffensive. Although I have been guilty of it--to both our detriments--a lesson hard learned.
Seems real easy for some women to just "kick that jerk to the curb!" That's not so easy for most men.
Gotta be cruel to be kind sometimes, I guess.

My wife did the same thing to me. I think that she was trying to not hurt me, truth is much easier to handle. But a liar is just that, they are selfish people. He is only thinking about how he will feel by telling you. I hope he can realize that things can change, that through trials a couple can become stronger. I think some do this, because they know the truth will hurt. What they don't realize is the truth will hurt for a little while, but it will help forever. It would have allowed you to move on and find a much more honest guy.

Maybe they want to do the right thing but temptation is taking over them. Other than that they lie to get something out of it for themselves because they are selfish.

they might not feel love in that way for you but they think if they just lie to you, they wont hurt your feelings.i think that's bull crap.they should speak with the truth ,unfortunately people never learn

i think they are just looking for a way to spare you the pain. and if you know they don't feel that way why wouldn't you ask point blank? it appears to be prolonging something that is no longer there! good luck!

Some people don't know what love is, but they know that if they say it, they will more than likely get what they want or what it is they are "after."
