Check your water parameters. 99% of the time, a fish illness is due to poor water quality. Do you do 50% water changes each week? How big is the tank (I hope at least 10 gallons), and what tankmates are in there?

Just for your info, a healthy tank should have water readings of ammonia-0, nitrites-0, nitrates-less than 20. Nitrates-less than 10 is ideal. If your tank does not have these readings, you have found the problem. Do water changes and hope for the best.

Sounds like a possible internal bacterial infection seeing as your parameters you say are ok. It also sounds like its too late. Clove oil is a good way to euthanize.

Check the temperature of the water...it may be too warm.

But, it sounds as if your gourami is almost gone.

Sorry.
