What is the purpose of life or what gives it meaning?

There is no purpose to life whatsoever. Any meaning is what you give it.

That sounds trite and cliche, but it is the truth. All human life has the cosmic significance of the life of one gnat. We could all be wiped out tomorrow and the earth would continue to spin around the sun.

So enjoy the freedom!

There are many theorys on the subject, but there is no way to know. Until humans can stop claiming themselves to be the most advanced creatures, and realize that all are the same in nature, there will never be an answer to your question. What we have done, these things we think so grand, are nothing. We think they are grand of course, but why is that? No other animal cares. No other animal thinks it is so grand. It is only humans, and that is because we designed it. We made things the way they are. We are the best. no one to out smart us! So who I ask is going to disagree? If you don't know the answer, it's no one.
In every story there is a leader, but it is only a story. In life, there will always be a leader. Us, the humans, are the so called "leaders", but in the end we can't deny what we are. Animals. We as humans have advanced, and we are so great because we say so. Who's to say we have a purpose? If the theory of God is correct, then do we even need a purpose?
The theorys of all types are wrong, there is no right answer. Humans will never find a purpose as long as we continue believing to be above the rest.

To live...Birth, Death, Love are all part of life. If you find a way to live from them - then they are your purpose and meaning.

But, remember, in the end...we all must live. That is how we were designed...to live.

As for purpose and meaning of life - it is like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich - we could eat nuts, grapes and wheat, and live very well, but we insist on something more.

Trucks to drive the jars to the store, factories to create the gas for the trucks, to build the trucks, to build the refrigerator to store the jelly (you have to start with cold jelly - none of that right out of the jar at room temperature stuff), electricity for the refrigerator, etc...

All the man hours and resources it takes to make that PB&J sandwich exist is incredible. So, there must be a purpose and meaning to it - that one would go to all that trouble for a PB&J Sandwich right?

Yet, when you take that first bite - ahhhh it is the moment you are living in and purpose and meaning take the back seat to living.

The purpose of life is to structure "time". What is meant by structuring time is the effort to change what happens in future, by making changes in the happenings of the present, based on the information gathered during the changes that already happened in the past.

This purpose of life does not end with death! evolutionand procreation are the two tools life uses for collective structuring of time beyond the life span of individual beings.

In the lifeless world there is no effort to "change" the happenings of the present, with an aim to struture the time in the future. For example, water will always follow the path down slope, regardless of where it leads to. Flowing water will cause various predictable happenings on the surroundings regardless of what the future holds for it

Very simple question, life is not as complicated as one may think, let me explain.: life is something we as human beings cannot seem to understand, the thought of life on other worlds confuses people; there is no need for this, there are over 100 000 galaxies in our universe (they may be others), in these galaxies there are over 100 000 stars each of which has an average of 5 planets (lets say to keep things simple) of which orbit it- think about that.

As human beings we think we are special and significant, we are not, we are just as significant as the other animals that walk the worlds of life. Therefore (our) purpose of life is to die. We are not significant and certainly not special, what ever one chooses to believe, remember death is the renaissance.

There is none at all. The purpose of life is, whatever you make the purpose of your life. There is no given and warranted spiritual or metaphysical purpose. It's all up to you to make your life happy and purposeful.

The search of happiness & contentment (through whatever means)- this includes the persuit of 'perfection', and some people will not attain their goals in this lifetime. Every happy moment gives life meaning- the best way to be happy is to help & love others more than yourself. I consider the examined life to be the one most worthwhile.

The purpose of life is to love & be loved and to follow your destiny (whatever that is for you depending on your passions & talents). You give life meaning. Life is what you make it. It's up to you to live to your full potential.
