I am curious. In retail stores, it will be $249.99 when available. I don't see spending more for it.

Because they don't realize that the Xbox 360 is the best gaming console out there right now. The PS3 sucks really bad, but even that is better then the Wii.

It's that, or they just like throwing away money for the fun of it...

It's all about supply and demand my friend. Nintendo will "allocate" or restrict the number of consoles it ships to retailers.

They do this for a couple reasons, one they don't have the production to supply the entire worlds demand when they launch something new, and two it creates a lot of buzz with the media about the new unit and stories about people doing crazy stuff to get one. That's all free advertising if you're Nintendo.

So, when the thing launches there just aren't enough the market place to keep up with the demand. There are also people out there who place a high value on being the "first one " to get something new. Those folks are willing to pay premium prices to get that new thing no matter what.

The nice thing about electronics is supply eventually catches up with demand and when it does ebay prices will start dropping to the point where discounters will have the units available and prices below Nintentndo's dictated prices. You just have to wait.

The reason why people bid so much for the Nintendo Wii on eBay is because the demand for the Nintendo Wii is high. People will pay more to get their hands on the product.

Unfortunately, in today's society people cannot wait to have things. They want everything now, even if it means that they
will pay more for it. It don't really understand it myself. I work
too hard for my money to spend extra on something I can eventually get cheaper if I wait a little longer for it. Alot of people today just do not have any patience. I guess I'm just old fashioned.

the problem is, most stores are sold out, and there's a high demand for it, so people will pay as much as it takes to get one.
