Cucumbers, squash, cantaloupe, strawberries, vining string beans and scarlet runner beans are all fine...

Zucchini is another option. Also cherry tomoatos. Many herbs grow well in containers, although they aren't vegetables as you asked about... you could also try watermelon or pumpkins. They are heavy feeders on soil, however, and may not produce.

If you are looking for greenery and not produce, make sure to use a fertilizer abundant in nitgogen. If you are looking for produce... consider a liquid fertilizer made from seaweed as it contains the trace elements plants need to set fruit.

Watch out for infestations of aphids and other "sucking" insects... try to water your planters from the roots up if possible. There are planters available that can do this, and other products that allow for it to be done in any planter. Essentially, keep your plants foilage dry and the top of the soil's surface too. This will help discourage insects from eating your plants in the first place... if you get bugs... use diatomaceous earth to combat them, or wood ashes, or a spray of soapy water... refer to this question:

I hope this helps!

cukes and squash can be trained up on a frame. If they drag they can get yucky. Sweet potatoes are a good dragging plant because only the leaves drag and the potatoes stay in the pot. Or strawberries!
