Check the cable first to be sure it is tight, and none of the pins on the end of the cable are bend.

If the cable is good, then one of three color units (red, green and blue) has gone bad. They do wear out with time. You will need to replace the monitor.

Could be the monitor cable... My friend had to fix his monitor once, he took apart the cable and did something with the wires (there is one for each color i believe...) THIS IS DANGEROUS! but if it is an LCD monitor try replacing the VGA cord that connects your monitor to your computer, or if it is a CRT (bubble screen) you may need a new monitor..

Make sure the monitor cable is firmly attached to both ends. One of my remote client bugged me all the time about this problem, and I did not figure it out until I came and checked it out. Is is not my fault, the client's fault for kicking it with his leg :)

Assuming you're using a PC and not a laptop your monitor cable could either be loose or damaged.
