Marriage is neither.

Marriage is a union of a man and woman.

The RITES of marriage ceremony is largely religious and when performed by one legally qualified to do so also satisfies state law

A civil ceremony is a legal bonding of a man and woman under applicable state law

For marriage to be valid, it must be a legal ceremony and for me it was both religious and legal. (My pastor presided over the ceremony.)

It's both, legally.

If you stand before a Justice of the Peace, it's more of a legal ceremony.

If you spend bu-ku bucks on dresses, food, flowers, church, etc, it's more of a religious ceremony.

wow...its a great place for friends to party and relatives to avoid other members of there own familey...the day of the marriage and at other holidays thru-out the year.

And that is the day of the religious part of the marriage and about 2 years maybe...

and after that comes the Legal Ceramony (Divorce)

legal one not a spiritual one. because two people can bind themselves to each other forever without a ceremony. the spiritual thing takes place in the heart.

Marriage is actually the signing of a piece of paper by 2 people, witnessed by 2 people and signed by a state vested person saying the 2 people are married. All the other parts of it are whistles and bows.
