Why? You have to look at religon at the main facotr to ANYONES freedom. Even in the bible, woman are bound to the home, should not be heard in public, are a "mans servent" are "below" men, and should not be heard in church. So perhaps, you should deal with why these biblical rules are in place now? Are the Modern feminist going agaist Gods word? Well, yes!
I am not saying that woman are ABOVE or BELOW men, or vice versa, but what I am saying is that even though we woman dont think that woman of other culters are as "fee" as we are, we shoudl respect their choice of lifestyle.
Every human controls what they want to do in their life. You can't control where you were born, but after birth, you control you. If you don't want to follow the Muslim belife, even though you were born into the Muslim society, then as hard as it may be, you can CHOOSE to not be apart of it, and "free" yourself to another country where you found beliefs that suit you. But most PEOPLE think that they are the victume "oh woos me, I am born into soemthing I don't like, I have to live with it..whaa whaa whaa whaa" Get over it. Don't like soemthing about your life, then do something or shut up!!
Thats what alot of woman fail to relize to. We are pretty much programmed from birth to think that WE are victems. "Oh, My father yelled at me when I was 5, so I feel the only men I can date are men that yell at me" Well...thats the type of men you are choosing to date, so STOP CRYING ABOUT IT. If you don't want a man who yells at you, find a man who doesn't! Simple as that. Yeah, the action is a little harder, but no one said the path to a good life was going to be easy.
Or the one I LOVE the most. "I had a baby, so I can't lose the weight!" Bullcrap..I am not going to brag about my personal weight loss, but I am back to the weight I was BEFORE I was pregnant, and its only been 7 months. Don't like that your fat? Do something! Stop b*tching that you're a size 16 and stop being jealous to the woman who are a size 3...you want to wear those thight jeans? Get up and lose the weight!!
Same things go to woman of other countries that, as we see it, are being abused, misused, ect ect ect..ever thought for a minute that the woman who do choose to live that life, embrace the tradtional roles that we just toss to the side? Or that they are married to MEN who proctect them, who ring home food, and cattle, who provide them with a home, and all they really ask for in return, is that food to be cooked, that home to be clean, sex (holy crap!!!) and respect..geez, is THAT such a bad life? Oh well...I guess in our modern feminist world, its all about ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME...

Some people seem to have a hard time letting go of old ways. Many people decide to choose religon over what really matters and who ends up suffering? Females. Countries such as Canada and the U.S.A are thankfully not part of this horrid problem but it doesn't mean it doesn't occur.
Even is such rich and prosperous nations such as China, women are harrased repeatedly. They are sold into slavery and abused in everyway possible. Why? Because religon dictates every family must have a son but the law says a family can only have one child so these girls are sold. In the Middle East many are married off at the age of five to settle debts. They are concidered to be worth less because of extremists (not Muslims so don't yell at me). In India, female fetuses are aborted or abandoned after birth because if they keep females they will eventually have to pay a dowry when the girl marries.
In my opinion the only way to stop this is to spread education to BOTH men and women. Men must learn to let go of old traditions and beliefs. Women must learn that they can control their own lives and have the right to take action.
Education= A better world period.

You will find that in countries where religion shares equal power with government (like Iran or Saudi Arabia) women tend to be oppressed. Those governments didn't make that rule, a religion did.

it usually has to do with tradition and religion. if you look at most cases it happens in countries that are not as modern as the western countries, they usually don't know how to read or write and there for can't read up on how the rest of the world has changed, they don't have tv or radio and won't see or hear about it.
some countries have strong traditions and some people believe strongly in them and follow that eventough they know of western civilization and modern living, it's by choice in their case

Culture. Islam does not oppress women either. We are equal to man and have rights appropriate to us. The same with men.

Which countries would these be?
Most countries that are anti women's freedom are muslim countries. Islam is sadly very archaic in these respects.
This is never found in secular nations though.
