Do you mean growing in the sense of people liking it or the musicality? i believe, musically it's the same, making a loud, metallic, and usually technical noise to piss off everyone around you and forming a brotherhood with other metalheads. i belive that people liking metal will never happen the way it did in the 80s (i'm not saying i don't want metal in the limelight i'm just saying). it's like with any type of music, it's pretty cool for a couple of years then it winds down and it's pushed aside for the next popular music, look what happened with disco and grunge, they huge at one time then it got old. that's thing i love about metal, no matter how old the band is or when they were most popular, those fans will stand by them for as long as they live. as rob zombie said "i've never met the guy who said "yeah i was really into Slayer.....one summer," i've only met the guy who has SLAYER carved across his chest"

I think it is growing I think it went in a decline in the 90's but I think it is on the rise again. More and more people are listening to rock instead of hip hop, rap and pop. I still like heavy metal from the 80's the best though but there are some good groups now.

In my opinion no. You look at today's band scene and what's getting played on the rock stations, you'll hear pantera, dragonforce, slipknot, metallica, static x and even bands that are in my opinion starting their own trends in the metal world (like Avenged Seven Fold etc).

The undeground scene is also staying stronger than ever. Metals here to stay with an underground scene this strong. Take a look at the punk rock revolution in the 90's. Most people thought punk was about dead after the 80's.

Heavy Metal is hard to define. Rock, in general, is increasing in popularity while hip hop/rap is declining. This according to CD sales. However, if you are just counting Heavy Metal", I sthink its kind of stagnant. True heavy metal will always have a niche. It really all depends on how you define heavy metal

Depends, there are a lot of bands with a hard sound that are thriving. However, heavy metal in the traditional sense is declining.

i think it is declining. The new bands that are coming out now are no were near heavy metal. It is all being taken over by rap and what they call alternative, which this kind of alternative SUCKS! . Just like the white foke that are becoming minority. bring back pantera, pennywise, old school metallica.

heavy metal wasn't popular years ago either. What's amazing is you don't hear pop music on the radio from years ago but you hear good heavy metal or hard rock songs
