There was an incident near me this week of a man kicking and throwing his dog about on a local beach whilst carrying a 1 year old child who was sick during the whole thing.

This prompted 100's of people to report him for the abuse he done to the dog.

What about the poor baby? He is obviously unstable and shouldn't be left in charge of a dog yet alone a baby but this didn't seem to occour to many people.

I don't condone animal abuse but surely children should take priority.

He has since been caught and is being charged with animal cruelty but still the issue of the child hasn't been raised.

More people in the uk donate to animal cruely charities than child ones.

Do we have our priorities wrong?

Absolutely, people are more concerned for an animal than a baby!! What on earth has the world come to ? Last time I checked animals didn't grow up to be contributors in society. The man should have been arrested for child endangerment! Not that animals aren't important, but for crying out loud there is a human involved here!

Why should one creature get priority over another?

I know that the baby was only one, but from the sounds of it the dog was being treated much worse than the baby was.

Although the baby was sick the dog did nothing to get treated that way. Dogs basically just want to be your friend, they love you and are very loyal to you, so when someone does something like this to a dog it gets hurt and confused and doesn't understand what's going on. This is cruelty to animals in it's most basic form.

I think the dog and the baby should have received the same level of treatment and that man should be locked up.

He definately should be punished for what he did to the dog. The dog was actually attacked. With regard to the child, what he did was morally wrong, but I'm not sure that Social Services would see it as something that should be investigated. Whether or not they'd see it as an indication of further problems I don't know. It's a difficult one. I don't really believe the majority of people in the UK put welfare of animals before that of children, although some probably do.

Yes! LOL. I've been waiting for someone to bring this up. That's sad. If the baby had been a baby chimp, maybe someone would have thought about it's well-being.
However, let's not speak badly of animals or deny them respect. They're smarter than we're able to acknowledge. The more intelligent animals have languages, different dialects, cultural differences, and family values. Even an insect like the bee deserves some admiration. It runs a huge, complexed organization, much like a business, with only the communication tools of dance and smell at it's disposal.

I am with Claire and Green.
I abhor any cruelty to any living thing. Again the dog was attacked, the baby neglected.

If a person will abuse an animal, that person will abuse a child or other person. So we need to lock them up and throw away the key.

For the record animal charities do not get nearly the government funding as do people charities. So I think it well to give them more from private individuals.

I totally agree with you! Whilst I am against animal cruelty, I would have complained about the sick child first. If people were to care about children more than they do about animals, alot more children would have been saved by now. These people definately ought to get their priorities in the right order!!!
