If it's worth 400 dollars now, but you don't desperately need the money, hold on to it. In a few years it will be worth more and you might need it more.
I suggest you get a safety deposit box for this and other valuables. Keep your insurance policies and car title in there, too, AND copies of your tax returns. By keeping your tax returns in there, you make the box tax deductible if you itemize.

If you intend to sell the coin, I suggest that you post another question with more info on the coin, under Hobbies & Crafts category, and I(or other numismatists) can help you to evaluate the silver coin before you sell. I do not know what silver coin that you have there; could be $400 like you said, or could be more, or less. Try Hobbies & Crafts with another question; I'll be there. Good luck.

$400 seems like alot but it really isn't. Hold on to the coin until you are at least 30 years old. You will be glad that you did. If your parents have a safe deposit box at the bank you should store it there.
You coin may be worth thousands of dollars in the future.

You want to sell it now? No, don't sell it, keep it. If you sell it now, it worth only $400, but if you keep, it will worth a lot, the actual value and the precious memory about your grandmother.

Maybe but try Ebay or an auction. DON'T sell it to a dealer, who will offer you ten bucks or so.

I would hang on to it. It can only increase in value. Save it for your children. Keep it in the family.

It depends--do you have any emotional attachment, since your grandmother gave it to you? Did she give you many other things to remember her by? My grandfather used to give me half dollars all the time--I still have them, and have collected them ever since, because they remind me of him.
