When we speak of the term "normal," it just means that the people in a certain society is conforming to the rules of society. Try to imagine: if we consider a room full of ten people a society, 9 of them are in formal attire and 1 is in a casual attire, This one person may be considered as a "freak" because he is not conforming or following the norms. He can also be called as deviant. This is why we call this person strange.

Different behaviors are due to different cultures that people came from. Just like in the US, there are so many different people who came from different countries. People call other people "freaks" because of several reasons: skin color, attitudes, behavior, language, etc. As a result of mixed race in a certain country, it creates a "culture clash" or "culture crash"

So next time, evaluate yourself first before telling people that they are freaks.

There is no such thing as normal. When you try to define "normal" the best anyone can come up with is a definition somewhere along the lines of:
Normal is a behavior, attitude, or lifestyle, defined by a group of individuals (whether it is a family, a collection of friends, coworkers, communities, religions, and nations) suitable to that group.

The problem with this deffinition is that "normal" to one group is not "normal" to another. What is normal to one nation or belief system may not be normal to others.

For Example, inn America and other western cultures burping audibly in public is considered rude. However, in other cultures such as the Bengali culture of India, burping audibly is not rude at all.

A much better word than normal would be acceptable. What is acceptable is often referred to as normal, but we have already seen that the acceptability of things, acts, beliefs...what you will, varies greatly among different people.

The best thing is to try not to judge people on what is acceptable to you. Think about what is acceptable to them.

Congratulations on asking a significant question. Look at all the answers you got.

I decided when I was an angst-ridden teenager that anything I thought or did that harmed no one else was "NORMAL" and I have run with that. Don't let the controlling personalities, religious fanatics and political pundits stifle your creativity and personality!

In reference to behavior, the term normal is rarely ever used anymore as even children respond by saying, "What does normal mean?" There is no such thing as normal human behavior. Because who knows what motive lurks in the back of a man's mind?

(m)

In behavior, normal refers to a lack of significant deviation from the average. The phrase "not normal" is often applied in a negative sense (asserting that someone or some situation is improper, sick, etc.). Abnormality varies greatly in how pleasant or unpleasant this is for other people; somebody may half-jokingly be called "pleasantly disturbed".

Wide answer but here it goes
Normal is being able to support yourself and loved ones and interact with others and your environment without causing harm to others or oneself
That should fit in a variety of cultures and standards

"Normal" simply means conforming to the majority of community standards of behavior. Of course, every community will have different standards, so "normal" in one will be "abnormal" in another.

There isn't any standard definition of normal. Psychologists rather use the words "well adapted" or "maladapted" with regards to the actual environment the person is in.

i thing the definition of normal changes with each person because no one is the same. however it doesnt necessarily mean everybodys is weird. In my opinion the only way someone is abnormal is if they dont have reasoning behind their actions. In that case thats really abnormal.

Normal is in the "eye of the beholder", peoples definitions are different from person to person. Often times though taboo is mistaken as being "not normal."

to me being normal is boring, something that is "unnormal" is unique and different. but for the most part there are plenty of people that are "unnormal", so i guess you can consider that a norm. it just all depends on your point of view, and you consider everyone "unnormal" that is unlike you.
