Does anybody know how long does it take from the time from ejaculation to the time sperm reach the egg. And how long does it take for an egg from release to reach the uterus?

If the egg is not fertilized, at the time it reaches uterus, is it dead? or if alive, can it still be fertilized?

I don't know exactly how long it takes for sperm to travel to the fallopian tubes where they can fertilize the egg. However, if you have intercourse in the presence of fertile cervical fluid, the sperm can live for up to 5 days waiting for the egg to be released.

Once an egg is released, it lives for 12-24 hours, during which time it can be fertilized. About 10% of the time, another egg is released w/in 24 hours of the first. That egg would live about 12-24 hours also.

To my knowledge, the egg is always fertilized in the fallopian tubes. It then travels down and implants in the uterine wall about 6-10 day after conception. If the egg is not fertilized w/in 12-24 hours, it dies and is washed out w/ the next period.

I believe it takes sperm about 6 hours to make it to the fallopian tube. Once the egg is released, it will survive for about 12-24 hours. It takes the egg about 12 hours to reach the uterus once it's released from the ovary. The egg must be fertilized in the tube or it will not implant once it reaches the uterus.

It depends on whether they're swimming with, or against the current.
