I had always planned on going to grad school to get a phd in counceling pyschology. I really don't like doing research and five more years of school doesn't seem like something I want to do right now. All I've ever wanted to do is talk to people and help them through their problems. I have decent writing skills. It's probably not Maybe I could do some kind of answer column for a magazine or paper or something. I don't know. If I wanted to go into something totally different would I have to go back to school or would a company be willing to train me since I already have a degree?

you cannot be a therapist without a master's degree and licensure. Go to a mental health center and talk with the director. Also look into other areas of need, like abused women, troubled children (school) substance abuse, look in your phone book, there is a bunch of community based help places.

It totally depends on what route you'd be switching to... but a BS in psychology won't get you too far in the field of psychology. You might look into working for a nonprofit -- I was able to work with special education students with just a BA in psych. I'd also look into master's programs -- only 2-3 more years of school, not heavy on research, much more applied, and it will open up your options a lot.
