A four month old needs to be cuddled and have verbal stimulation. Just hearing your voice, feeling your touch and your particular smell will give him comfprt. You do not need to entertain him, just be there. Don't forget to give him his "space" also. Too much constant handling can be overstimulating and make him tired and sore. Give good visual stimulation like mobiles and of course fresh air outdoors. Have fun! They are only babies once and grow up so quick.

Lots of things. Here are a few that are fun: Lay on the floor with him - at his level and talk and laugh - he will follow. Give him the raspberries on his belly. Play patty cake. Babies love interaction. Sit him in your lap and read to him - that will help him to appreciate books and will help with his diction when he learns to talk. Let him bang his little fingers on the book - that's his way of 'reading'. Sit him in his swing (I assume he has one) and put him where he can look out the window. It's good for stimulating his brain - there's so much to see out there. You may have to wait a couple of months before he can sit up in his highchair if the swing idea doesn't work. You don't need any gyms or toys - he just needs you right now when he can't get around by himself. Don't be so hard on yourself - I'm sure you give him plenty of attention. And he doesn't need any more than your love! Be happy, Mommy! P.S. Make sure he has some alone time, too. He doesn't need to be entertained all the time.

There are many activities you can do with your four month old. Just remember that his attention span is short, so keep the activities short. Here are some suggestions:
*Read to him with a lot of enthusiasm and show
him the pictures in the book.
*Show him how handsome he is by standing
with him in front of a mirror and pointing to his
image. Ask him little questions like, "Who is
this gorgeous child?",or something that will bring
a smile to his face.
*Give him safe objects to hold that have different
textures.
*Play pat-a-cake.
*Play peek-a-boo.
*Take him for nice walks in his stroller.
*Help him with some gentle stretching exercises.
*Hold him securely and dance with him.
There are so many things you can do. If you add laughter and hugs to everything you do with your little one, you will teach him joy with all that you do. Hope this helps a little! Annie

Lots of good suggestions here. The main thing is to make contact - talk to him, and not just with baby talk. If you're cooking and he's in the high chair, tell him what you're doing as you do it. If you're folding clothes, say something like, "Oh, here's Daddy's red T-shirt. Let's fold it and make it look nice." Things like that. Be sure to make eye contact. Make faces at him and see if he makes them back (he probably will). Laugh with him. Hold him, hug him, rock him. Give him the security of knowing you are there for him. And participate in whichever of the suggested activities fits your lifestyle/schedule.

i had that problem too. my son enjoyed playing with jello or pudding in his high chair. it's kinda similar to finger painting but it's not the end of the world if he gets some in his mouth. as long as he can sit up, go for it!! also, since it's starting to get warmer, my son always loved to go for walks (even just around the block) and swinging at the park. you don't have to be out for long but it'll be good for you both to get some fresh air. we also went to the library once a week for their "storytime". he didn't understand the stories, of course, but he enjoyed looking around and hearing the story reader's voice. it was fun.

Lay on the floor with him during "tummy time" eye to eye. Read to him. Sing to him. Take him for walks outside in a stroller or snuggli. He may not understand what's going on but he is taking everything in like a sponge!

Get out for walks when you can; babies love to see the world outside. I walked everywhere with my kids and we loved it. They are now 4 & 5 and still want to go on family walks.

You can find recipes for kids his age here on the web, and try to make them. You can let him choose stickers and write a story about those. Ex: the frog went to the store to find snacks for his giraffe. Or, you can use your imagination and be pirates or astronauts for a day! Or let him play with your hair..
