Justice Dept.: FBI Misused Patriot Act

The FBI improperly and, in some cases, illegally used the USA Patriot Act to secretly obtain personal information about people in the United States, a Justice Department audit concluded Friday.

And for three years the FBI has underreported to Congress how often it forced businesses to turn over the customer data, the audit found.

FBI agents sometimes demanded the data without proper authorization, according to the 126-page audit by Justice Department Inspector General Glenn A. Fine. At other times, the audit found, the FBI improperly obtained telephone records in non-emergency circumstances.

I cannot believe people telling me to IGNORE the problem. That can only make it worse. If the law enforcement agencies are allowed to break the law, who among is safe?
Accuse me of whining and you only show that you are one of the people who are willing to ignore the problem.
You people better wake up before you don't have the right to hold the government agencies accountable.
All you nardos who aren't concerned that the government is becoming ever more abusive and invasive are going to be in for a rude awakening. One day they will knock on YOUR door to take you away and there will be none like myself left to protest YOUR abuse.

Kiss my grits!!!

First of all, the USA Patriot act or
The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001 to give it it's full name was passed by a few senators during a ricin attack (so few could attend the vote) and so is illegal by itself. This 'law' deems anyone an 'enemy combatant' (by stripping them of their USA citizenship, holding them prone to criminalization).

This law comes into force when the Act is breached by some-one who is deemed to have 'directly endangered the life of a US citizen' under federal or state law'; under section 802. Can you imagine what laws this covers? Pot dealers, drunk driver, jay walkers, drivers using ipods or cell-phones to name a few examples. Any one caught with illegal drugs will be deemed an enemy combatant and tried under military law and EXECUTED, as drugs are now a weapon of mass destruction and endanger human life.

Section 213 states that the FBI can break into your house or business and bug you or plant evidence against you. Any

All governments are corrupt so don't think that voting out the old bunch will make the situation any better. Hilary Clinton is pro-war so wars will continue for the foreseeable future. Oh, and yes, she WILL win the next election.

America is a great and noble countryand deserves better. Don't forget you Bill of Rights and constitution as they are sacred. Do something right and stand up for humanity

To Kevin A, I'm not whining, just stating the facts. My suggestion would be to SCRAP THE PATRIOT ACT

Its no suprise to me. The fbi is as crooked as regular law enforcement. They help out each other, and let crooked police and township supervisors ruin peoples lives. They are in it for the power and the paycheck, not to bring justice for ordinary citizens.

Proof? We don't need proof for anything in this country anymore. Due Process...Out the window! The government does whatever they feel like doing and...here's the kicker...WE LET THEM!
Like the great Bob Marley once crooned "Get up stand up, stand up for your rights!"

the FBI was able to destroy the KKK as an organization using questionable legal tactics....I'd hate to think that sometimes overstepping bounds doesn't gave a noble end.
