How often should I apply a water-seal? I'd love to keep it looking as natural and vibrant as possible. Any help would be appreciated!

You are on the right track with the sealer. As far as the question of how often. It does depend on where you live, how wet it is, what are the winters like. is it a high traffic area? The best way to answer this question would be to contact someone at the local hardware store. That is what they are therefore and they know they conditions in the area you live. Hope this helps! Good luck and Have a good day!

We installed a redwood deck (Bay Area CA)...when we first installed it, it was really beautiful and vibrant and within one year it faded to gray (yuck!) even though we sealed it and everything (with Thompson sealer).

I tried using deck cleaner (a couple types and a couple different times) and that helped, but not back to the original, plus it was hard to apply and took forever!

So finally I bought a power washer and that really did the trick...got it back to the original vibrancy and then we sealed it again. We have yet to see if it will fade again, but I'm guessing it will need to washed and sealed like that every year.

Thompson's Water Seal is a good product. You didn't mention what region you reside in, so I would say every two years as an average.

A wood stain and sealer would be advisable...you can also visit Leow's or Home Depot and get their great advice......(or any other hardware/home store of your choice, especially if you are in a smaller town that has mom and pop businesses
