It's a con. Don't fall for it.

I have Indian friends who are traditional and guess what? They keep their own gold in their own safe deposit boxes - not with the mother-in-law. Also, if you need to safekeep it with someone, keeping it with your own mother sounds like a much better idea you think?

Honey
I don't know about Tamil culture, but never give your gold, money or dignity away, even if he is your husband asking you to do it.
It is your gold after all,why give it to your mother in law?

Have a look and se if you find anything in this website.

Girl its your gold why would you want to give it to your mother in law, even if it where just for safe keeping??

Unless she likes it & thinks if she keeps it for 'safekeeping' for you she can use it.

If i were you (im indian too) i would not give it to my mother in law to keep. There things called BANKS & SAFETY DEPOSIT BOXES which keep it for you.

If you still unsure I work with Tamal women who are great at the school i teach at can ask them for you. Or ask someone in the family or a friend who is Tamal but aint mention your situation but just overall viewpoint & see how it goes

Goodluck

ha, you should have done more research before marrying him.

Well for people living in western cultures, the concept of this is totally insane.... be your own person! anyway, i know there's nothing u can do but submit..... best of luck!

sorry i'm not tamil but even if they do have that tradition i think if it makes you uncomfortable you shouldn't do that and your husband should understand and not pressure you
