Nope. The company didn't give you those children, so you shouldn't be awarded with priority for time off.
The priority should be based on seniority or position, but not by who has children and who doesn't.

no, I don't think parents should have any priority over someone w/o kids. Thats just not right. And I am a parent with kids and would NEVER take advantage of that just because. Everyone deserves time off with or without kids. Half the time I take a day off when the kids are in school so that I have time to myself.

Personal circumstances should never entitle an employee to privileges that he or she would not otherwise be entitled.
Should another employee with a large mortgage receive greater remuneration to help with the payments?

I dont think so, I can see why they need to work around school children, but why should others suffer - ie Xmas? everyone likes to celebrate and may have to travel, why should parents get special treatment. it shoudl be on a rota or first come first serve basis.

No. People are always looking for reasons to receive better treatment than others. The result is inequity, and it defeats the purpose of living in a free society.

no- if they want to take time off in school holidays then they should request it far enough in advance- first come first served!
And to Donna- parents are not the only people affected by school holidays... I'm going on holiday this summer with my teacher friend and limited to school holidays only...

I don't know of anywhere where they are. Most places it's first come first served. Parents tend to get in early as they have to take their holidays in term time.
