Im currently studying Biomedical Sciences, as a retake.. I just need some help with focusing myself and I am ideally looking for a tutor or tutors to help me with individual modules.. any ideas where I can find tutors who would teach me at home???? Or any online course materials (I have looked on my university site which is not very helpful at all!!).

All help gratefully appreciated....

I just need someone to help me with my learning and ensure that I am disciplined enough to actually just get on with it. It is far easier and more motivating to have someone teach you, as opposed to teaching yourself. I am lucky in the sense that I can retain information well and I am also a really hard worker. I am finding it difficult to get on with my Foundations of Organic Chemistry, Organic Fucntional Group Chemistry and Biochemistry modules because there is so much to learn and I don't know where to start!! Yes, I know it seems so mad that I've virtually left it to the last minute as my exams are in a few months but I'm doing a retake so I only need 40% to pass, infact my grades will all be pegged at 40%. I've been very unlucky in the sense that I've moved away from home to come to university and have encountered many problems which is why I have grossly underachieved. I know that given the right kind of help I can pass this year even at this late stage..

Advertise for tutors. Ask your teachers where they look for jobs, or maybe a teacher's assistant where they might look.

Say you need a tutor, and ask if they know anyone.

Volunteer organizations may help as well. Try things like the YMCA or YWCA, oxfam, all those kinds of places have people with time on their hands. Ask the retired people who work there, they could have other retired friends.

Then there are always smart students. Try posting up the job offer in the university job board. They might not think about offering their services, they might think instead about flipping burgers. But if approached, they'll be flattered and prefer tutoring to frying.

Try contacting the Open University (www.ou.ac.uk) as I think they specialise in producing specific resources for particular courses.

Also if you're looking for tutors try placing an advert in your local newspaper and also in the Times Educational Supplement and the Education Guardian, as many specialists, academics and teachers read these.
