As a teacher when you move from one school district to another do your sick days transfer too? I know that retirement does, but I am not sure about sick leave. If it makes a difference I am in California.

I'm not sure about California, but in Texas you get state sick leave that transfers to any district in the state. Some districts also give local sick leave that does not transfer.

Unless teacher sick leave is mandated by the state (which I have never heard of), your sick leave is provided by the district you work in and has been negotiated by contract (usually union/school board) with the specific district.

Each "district" has its own negotiated contract and therefore sick leave would not transfer, just as your current salary, insurance, personal days, etc. would not transfer to a new district. When moving to a new district you enter into a new contract with that district and are governed by the terms of their agreement. The only thing that transfers is your level of educational advancement and your years in service.

You should get a whole new set of sick leave days. However, it depends on the laws in the State of California. If they state that a person who continues to work in the state (though in a different district) must have his/her sick days roll over, then you are stuck. But I doubt that it would be so.
