Do as little on your computer as possible and go buy some data recovery software, such as Data Rescue.

Basically, when you delete a file, you actually delete what's pointing to that file, so it's still there for a while until another file gets put in the same place. The more you do on your computer, the more likely something will get written in that place. Remember that files are being written even when you aren't consciously saving files (for example, your browser's cache files).

This is assuming you didn't Secure Empty the Trash from the Finder menu, in which case, the file is not recoverable. When you Secure Empty, it writes over that space with random bits, so the file isn't actually there.

Good luck!
