About a year and a half ago, I was visiting a friend in downtown Cleveland. I fell on the sidewalk and really hurt my left knee. It was swelled for about two weeks and hasn't been the same since. I should have gone to the doctor but I was unemployeed and broke and no medical coverage of any kind. I've just kind of dealt with it. It's stiff and it hurts to kneel down. (I'm an altar server at my church so when I have to kneel for a few minutes, thats when I really feel it)
Recently, it's been bothering me more than usual. There are times when it kills every time I put weight on that leg. And, I have to stand a lot for my current job. I'll get medical next month when I've been there for a year but I don't know if I can wait that long. What should I do? And until I go to the doctor, how can I ease the pain a little so I can get through a day without wanting to cry.

Just a few things:
Because my left knee hurts, I try to avoid kneeling so my right knee is kind of out of shape, too. It doesn't hurt. Just stiff.
I'm going on a trip soon and will be doing a lot of walking. What should I do to help in case my knee gets sore and painful at the end of the day?
I'm kind of scared to have surgery. I have to stand at my job and I can't afford to miss work.

You may have a damaged ligament on the front or side. Here's something to try. I took 800 mg of motrin 2-3x a day. The doctor told me that it will bring the swelling down and help the healing process. It did. Wrap the knee so you keep it straight. I bet twisting really brings on the pain. But you need the doc to check it out because if it's torn or has a broken bone chip in there, you may need some micro surgery to correct it before it gets really bad.

Call the doctors office and see if you can set up a payment schedule for an office visit.
Try using an ice pack. When you get home from work put you leg up and put the ice pack on, but don't leave it on longer than 15 minutes. This what my Dr. told me to do.

Ow! That even sounds painful!

I don't know if this will help after a year and a half, but I doubt it would hurt: Try warm compresses. And use a STRONG painkiller, or perhaps aspercreme on the area.

Hang in there, Honey!

Try something natural. Go to healthquest.peoplesway.com and look at PROTEC, this will help clean your system and end pain. I had stiffness in elbows and this really helped. Also look at PRO GCM for joint repair, and PRO GCM PLUS, this is an Ibuprofen cream that you can apply right to the area for pain releif. It is better than taking a pill and having those drugs all over your system. Plus it doesn't cause bleeding ulcers in your stomach because it is not taken orally.
