Are homosexuality and Christianity compatible? Is it all or nothing either way?

Once the believers finally realize what psychologists and neurologists have demonstrated conclusively for the last 4 decades (that homosexuality occurs in the brain and is not a conscious choice) then they may finally start to become more accepting.

We're no longer stoning to death our children for being rebellious, murdering adulterers, selling people into slavery, killing those who work on Sunday, declaring women to be "unclean" when they're on their period, prohibiting handicapped people from approaching the altar, etc. so there is certainly precedent for social progress.

I'm sure homosexuality will eventually find its tolerance - though probably never a comfort zone or full-fledged acceptance.

My personal feelings on this matter is that it is a touchy subject. I know in the old testament it states that homosexuality is wrong. Not really comes out and says it though due to when the Bible was written it really was ok for man to lie with man (look at Roman Culture). It was kind or frowned upon a little bit, but accepted. The word homosexual was not even added into the bible until the 1940's when certain radical Christian groups wanted to speak out against homosexuality and did not have enough resources to back it up. It could not have been in the original translation of the Bible, because it was written in Greek. The Greeks did not have a word for homosexual. They didn't base themselves as much on what a person is, as thier actions. They didn't identify themselves sexually, they they just did things and judged on that. We took the Roman approach to things and judge people more on what they say. aka.. I'm gay/straight/bi. Anyway away from the history.

I just have to believe that while having sex is wrong, I am not instantly judged because I'm gay, It is more that I try to be a good person. I mean obviously no one has it right.. but I just try and follow what I feel God would want me to do. I do beleive in Jesus and God and I do not think that I am going to hell just because of one little part of my life that I really had no control over. So I think they can be compatible, just don't expect everyone to be accepting of it.

Considering how it's in the christian bible that we are abominations. There are really is only one answer. Christians must accept us for what we are and move on. You can't change us because we were born this way (if you don't believe that just take this hypothetically for a moment).

Killing us won't do you any good because, homosexuality isn't inbred. Homosexuality comes from a family regardless of their beliefs. If only homosexuals had homosexual children then what came first the chicken or the egg? The fact is that homosexuals come from straight families too (my parents are straight). My point is that even if all of the homosexuals of today were slaughtered more would be born, homosexual genes are carried through heterosexual people.

Acceptance is the only answer. It's possible, it just takes time. Over the millennia that christianity has been around, many parts of the bible aren't followed anymore and I don't need to list any examples, I'm sure you've heard them. Homosexuality will just have to follow suit.

It depends on whether you are talking about Christianity or the warped way people cherry-pick from the Bible to prove their own biases.

Christians used to beat the left-handedness out of people. They murdered "witches." yada yada yada

If a person takes "the bible" (a collection of many separate works developed over centuries) to be "literal" the sun liteally rises & sets over the earth.

There is no literal interpretation of the Bible; if there were, people would agree on that interpretation.

I'm sick of people speaking for Christianity when it supports their hatreds.

You can't win by asking such a question, since there is no agreement on what Christianity is. People who are dense enough to say the world is a few thousand years old can't be reasoned with anyway.

Asking whether homosexuality is compatible with Christianity is like asking if blue eyes are. Or trees.

To any homosexuals out there, if I offend you with my answer, I am really sorry.

Homosexuality cannot be reconciled with Christianity. The Bible clearly states that it is a sin for a man to lay with a person of the same gender as a man would lay with a woman, referring to man-man or woman-woman sexual relationships. God makes it clear in the Bible that this is forbidden. There is no place in the Bible where God states that homosexuality is ok, but there is a place where he states it isn't right. I am a Christian and I believe homosexuality is wrong. Many people think that because Christians believe the homosexuality is wrong that we hate homosexuals. That is incorrect for most of us. While some unfortuntely forget that it is the sin that we should hate, other turn to hating those that commit the sin. I am one of those that remember to hate the sin, but cannot hate the sinner. Though I personally believe that homoesexuality is a sin, I have a friend that is homosexual. I can be friends with people that are homosexual while still not agreeing with their choice of sexual orientation. That must not be forgotten by anyone.

You cannot reconcile homosexuality with any religious belief. Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and the like.

The two really can't go together; that being said, neither does stealing, cheating, killing, etc with Christianity. All sin and fall short of His standards, but their is forgiveness.

And on another note, someone before said that we are all God's children and He loves us. Only part of that is true. We are all created in His image, and He loves each one of us; however only those who have a personal relationship with God through His son Jesus can claim that they are God's children.

Of course they are compatible.
They only people who say they are not compatible are hypocritical "christians" who preach anti-LGBT hatred, bigotry, discrimination and therefore violence. They have completely turned their backs on the main teachings of Jesus, who asked people to be loving and forgiving.

Not that there is anything to "forgive" LGBT people for, mind you. All people - LGBT and straight - are made by God and are God's children. Who are any of us to disparage any of God's children or any of God's gifts to them?

Fortunately, the bigoted "christians" mentioned above are a tiny yet strident minority when compared to true Christians.

EDIT - Whew, I'm glad I met km's hypocritical rule, since I am celibate (UNMARRIED) but certainly not chaste. It always makes me laugh when some "christians" say we never have long-lasting relationships and are having sex outside of marriage, and then out of the other side of their mouths campaign for marriage discrimination. What malarkey and hypocrisy!

Do you watch the Real World? There is a guy named Davis and he's cute, a Christian and gay. So yes, they both can go hand in hand sometimes but not always.

Nah. Homosexuals can believe in the bible. Most who do don't believe in the entire contents of it though. Yeah. They can be compatible.
