You should be able to find a computer shop locally that will build a computer for you. I just bought a new computer a week ago for my parents. They had windows 98 & something went wrong so they decided to get a new one. They wanted a new compute that didn't have windows Vista on it because they wanted to wait a bit in cause any flaws come up with it (and there definately has been probs in the past with other operating systems) I called all over town & nobody sold new computers with anything besides Vista. So we ended up getting our own made which was great cause we could pick what options we wanted as far as hard drive etc.

As long as you have a copy of the Windows 98 operating system, there is no reason why you can't install it on a computer with no OS.

Make sure you have an actual copy of Windows 98 though and not a recovery disc or OEM copy that came with an old computer. Most of the time those discs will only work with the computer they originally came with.

Windows 98 does require the harddrive to be formatted FAT32 and not NTFS but you can reformat a drive easily enough.

It would be easier to totally wipe the hard drive, reform it and load Windows 98.

Make sure that the version of Windows 98 you have is a full installation and not an upgrade copy. If it's an upgrade from Windows 95, then the computer won't load Windows 98 without Windows 95 being installed first.

Also, you'll open yourself to any security issues that have not been patched on that old version.

Use a domicile windows 98SE setup disk and run fdisk to delete the non-dos partition at thepersistent which will eliminate Vista. Set 2 partitions , a dos partition and a non-dos partition. setting up ninety 8 first on the dos partition format it fat32. Then setting up XP on the prolonged non-dos partition and format it NTFS. once you boot it provide you with the call of which os to load. in user-friendly terms concern i'm able to verify is that there is probably no longer any ninety 8 drivers for the countless hardware in the pc. The extra moderen chipsets and so on wernt even seen while ninety 8 grew to become into out.

Microsoft does not support 98 or ME. So I feel it is best to keep the newest version. You may need to up grade some of the software but XP and vista are much better.

why not set the new pc to use dual booting , this way you can have vista , and 98 on the same machine . it's really not that hard to set up and you don't need to be some advanced user to do this .

The only problem is if the hard drive is in NTFS. If it is fat, fat16, or fat32 then its no problem. Since it shipped brand new though with Vista, you'll more then likely have to buy another hard drive.
