My family of four is interested in relocating to AZ. Where would be a great location to live with housing in the $200,000 range.
We were thinking somewhere near Scottsdale.

Scottsdale is a great place to live. However it, and the main surrounding areas- Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills, Cave Creek are very expensive to live in.The average home price in Scottsdale and most of the surrounding areas is way over 200,000.00, more like 400-500 thousand. If you'd like to stay in the east valley-there are some nice areas in Chandler and Mesa-a bit older homes, but still nice.
Phoenix is ok, there are some nicer areas with lots of great historic districts that have neighborhoods of really unique houses. Some of the North Valley has good schools and houses in your price range, as does the west valley-Surprise, Peoria, Glendale, ect. The west valley is booming right now and there are alot of brand new homes that you may be able to get into for your price range, however, the schools still need some work. Good luck.

I would only live in Scottsdale or north Phoenix.........Glendale/Peoria are filled with crime and ghettos. Glendale is the worst! Anyone can afford Scottsdale...........you just have to start small and not go for the big house in the bad neighborhood......buy a $200,000, fix it up and flip it....................do things slowly if you're young.........If not got for a condo. Locations, locations, locations, in real estate. Think of it this way........the ST. are good..........the AVE............are bad! I wouldn't do Chandler Mesa, Gilbert, Tempe, anywhere below the 10........remember the neighborhood is made of PEOPLE..........you need to find a place where you fit in and are comfortable.Any new area you should rent and get a feel for the area before buying. Scottsdale's schools are better than most because it has a lot of stay-at-home moms that help in the classroom............and that keeps the ratio down. I love it here...............and I'm a native Californian................miss the ocean, but that's all I miss.
