It's such a shame that it even happened, but just the thought that our government did it / knew about it/ or had anything to do with it makes me cringe. Then, for it to be used as justification for this war that is killing EVEN MORE people and causing so much pain (just for money, might I add) and then certain people have the audacity to tell people like me that we don't care about what happened on 9/11 because we feel the war is a sham??? What gives???

We have been at war with radical Islam since Iran took our embassy people hostage during the Carter administration. We chose to ignore this disease known as international terrorism for decades. We finally realized that we are at war after the attack on 9/11. The only reason it ended up in Iraq right now is Saddam overplayed his hand. He would still be in power if he had cooperated with the UN inspectors. He liked making everyone believe he had horrible weapons. After 9/11 we could not take the chance that he did and might provide the technology to terrorists. Since we were still at war with Iraq since Dessert Storm, we took the opportunity to take out his perceived threat.

The terror supporting countries in the region realize the threat to them that a Free Iraq would pose, have been supporting the insurgency with money and sophisticated weapons. The disease of fundamentalist Islam tyranny cannot abide the cure that liberty brings to the long suffering people of the Middle East.

Why do anti war folks continue to repeat the lie that Bush linked Iraq to the 9-11 attack?
There are DOZENS of actual quotes of Bush stating - catagoricly - that Sadaam Husseins Iraq WAS NOT involved in that act of terrorism.
It is true that had 9-11 not occured, the US would probably have continued to turn a blind eye to Husseins endless transgressions and violations of the Gulf War Ceasefire, but 9-11 woke us up to the difficult truth that we could no longer ignore those who wished us harm.
There are plenty of legitimate reasons to protest this war (I disagree with most of them, but I respect the viewpoint).
It cheapens your argument to misstate the truth...again, Bush DID NOT say that Iraq was involved in 9-11.
He DID say that Hussein was an active supporter and enabler of terrorist groups similar to the one that did perpetrate the act.(He was 100% correct)
That is a fabrication by anti war folks to reinforce their position.
The fact that it is repeated ad nauseum by those same people does not make it any more truthful.

you do know the iraq war was launched in 2003, 2 years after we already liberated Afghanistan from Taliban rule... The Taliban being the group that attacked the WTC's...

http://www.iraqwatch.org/government/us/legislation/ila.htm

and you do know the war on Iraq was planned for in 1998...
3 years before 9/11...

maybe these quotes will remind you, however.. i doubt you were old enough at the time to 'remember' them..

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (Democrat, California)
Statement on US Led Military Strike Against Iraq
December 16, 1998

"Saddam Hussein certainly has chemical and biological weapons. There's no question about that."

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (Democrat, California)
During an interview on "Meet The Press"
November 17, 2002

"In the next century, the community of nations may see more and more the very kind of threat Iraq poses now -- a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction ready to use them or provide them to terrorists, drug traffickers or organized criminals who travel the world among us unnoticed.

If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow by the knowledge that they can act with impunity, even in the face of a clear message from the United Nations Security Council and clear evidence of a weapons of mass destruction program."

President Clinton
Address to Joint Chiefs of Staff and Pentagon staff
February 17, 1998

"People can quarrel with whether we should have more troops in Afghanistan or internationalize Iraq or whatever, but it is incontestable that on the day I left office, there were unaccounted for stocks of biological and chemical weapons."

Former President Clinton
During an interview on CNN's "Larry King Live"
July 22, 2003

"Saddam Hussein has brought military action upon himself by refusing for 12 years to comply with the mandates of the United Nations. The brave and capable men and women of our armed forces and those who are with us will quickly, I know, remove him once and for all as a threat to his neighbors, to the world, and to his own people, and I support their doing so."

Senator John Kerry (Democrat, Massachusetts)
Statement on eve of military strikes against Iraq

Keep spouting this rhetoric. That way you never have to deal with the truth. 911 was never a direct reason for the attack on Iraq. 911 was why we attacked Afganistan (Because they harbored Al-quada).

The reasons for attacking Iraq were given in a speach made by the president before the war.

Refusal of Saddom to comply with UN resolutions.
Human rights violations
WMD's
His harboring of terrorist organizations.
Firing upon American aircraft attempting to enforce UN resolutions.

Spin it as you will but these are the reasons we went to war in Iraq.

No but I find it a shame that you think that 9/11 has anything to do with this war, and I say that you are commiting treason by calling it unjust.

Bush said himself that this war has nothing to do with 9/11. Funny how liberals lie to try and get their point across.

This war isn't unjust. Saddam threatened the US with WMD. Bush took him out. We are fighting terrorists to keep our country safe.

ETA: So you don't listen to anything our President says? Then how can you disagree with anything he does when you know nothing?
Oooh, nice insult. I am so hurt.
