Low sperm count. There are vitamin supplements which can support male fertility. C, E, Zinc and Selenium seem especially important to male fertility. Many men have reported a dramatic increase in sperm count and mobility, etc w/ increasing nutrition and the use of supplements. The man should avoid hot, hot showers, saunas, tight underwear and shorts (like biking shorts).

Intercourse timing w/ a low sperm count. You should aim to have intercourse every other day during the fertile phase, but especially on the Peak Day (last day of wettest quality cervica fluid before a drying pattern appears). You might also abstain for several days before the fertile phase to give sperm count more chance to build up.

Be sure you have adequate cervical fluid. W/o fertile CF, sperm can only live 30min-4hrs in the woman's body. W/ fertile CF, they can live up to 5 days waiting for an egg. This would be extra important if there is any question abut sperm count. If you have too few days of fertile CF or too little, you can boost it by making sure you are well hydrated, cutting out any drying substances (antihistamines, caffiene, decongestants, etc) around your fertile phase. Green tea daily can work wonders (only regular green tea brewed at home, not capsules or bottled). Grapefruit juice and guafenasin (plain robitussin or the generic) have been used successfuly too. Some women have even tried using actual raw egg whites as a replacement w/ success. There is also a product called Preseed which may help in place of your own CF.

Clomid. It can dry up cervical fluid which would actually prevent conception, even though it triggers ovulation. It can also mess w/ your luteal phase (shortening it and risking early miscarriage or lenthening it and driving you nuts b/c you'll think you're pregnant). Even one round of clomid increases the risks of reproductive cancers. If you are already ovulating, clomid is really not worth the risk. If you decide to try it, pay special attention to your CF.

I highly recommnd charting your fertility signs. Your chart can tell you when you are fertile, when you are not, when you are ovulating, when to expect your next period, and when to suspect pregnancy. Your chart can also tell you if there are issues delaying conception or causing difficulty w/ carrying a pregnancy and if there are serious issues which need a doc's attention.

Some good sources for charting your fertility signs: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software), The Art of Natural Family Planning, and Garden of Fertility
