-CO2 is real
-CO2 traps heat in, and causes global warming
-humans give off large amounts of CO2 because of burning fossils fuels

For those who say humans have no influence on global warming, which of these facts do you dispute?

And don't start talking about Mars increasing in temperature, or the heat waves in the middle ages. That has nothing to do with the question, and is circumstantial evidence anyway.

Fact 1: CO2 is real
Answer 1: I think everyone can agree CO2 is real.

Fact 2: CO2 traps heat in, and causes global warming
Answer 2: CO2 does not "trap in heat". CO2 just slightly delays energy that is being radiated from Earths surface, but the energy will eventually find its way back into space. The majority of the greenhouse effect is caused by water vapor that makes up 90-95% of the atmosphere.

Fact 3: humans give off large amounts of CO2 because of burning fossils fuels
Answer 3: The IPCC has stated that humans can only claim responsibility for about 3.4% of carbon dioxide emitted to the atmosphere annually, the rest is emitted naturally by the Earth. CFC's are the only greenhouse gas that are mostly man made, at 66% of total CFC's being man made, but they make up a very small part of the overall atmosphere. Also CO2 is good for plant life on the planet, commercial growers deliberately generate CO2 and increase its levels in agricultural greenhouses to between 700ppmv and 1,000ppmv to increase productivity and improve the water efficiency of food crops far beyond those in the open atmosphere where CO2 levels are around 360ppmv. Still atmospheric CO2 typically increases after warming begins, not before.

Here is the problem

You see this as a "if you disagree with me" prove it.

I don't disagree that there is climate change occuring.

I don't disagree that during this time period, the increase in CO2 has increased dramatically. I don't dispute those facts.

What I do dispute is several facts that appear to be missing in the global warming theorists claims
1. Not all glaciers are melting. In fact about 1/2 the glaciers around the world are growing. (fact)
2. The earth goes through an 11,000 year cycle of temperature fluctuations. That would mean man has only been around for 2 to 3 of these temperature cycles.
3. Prior to man, say in the time of the dinosaurs, the termperature was about 15 degrees warmer than they are today. what were the dinosaurs burning???
4. The sun has an 11 year sunspot cycle. The increase in sunspot activity signals an increase in solar radiation. An increase in solar radiation will contribute to rising temperatures.
5. The same scientists who are running around screaming global warming now, were less than 20 years ago screaming global cooling. saying that by the year 2005 there would be glaciers in New York. They made this claim based on the computer models they were using.
6. You say there is an increase in temperature. Ok. we only have good reliable scientific measurement for the last 20 years. What about the previous 5 billion years? To look at only 20 to 50 years of good accurate measurement, when you are speaking about a global cycle that can last millions of years is being making very very jumpy predictions with very little empirical evidince.
7. this year it was predicted there would be more hurricanes, and higher categories... there were fewer, and lower categories.

Is climate change happening? Probably. Is it mans fault? the science there is inconclusive (2000 scientists send a petition to president bush saying it is..... 20,000 send a petition to him saying it isnt.)

Do we need to run around screaming global warming? global warming? No.

I dispute the "fact" of global warming.

This so-called "global warming" is a weak, non-scientific, politically-based explanation of normal cyclical climate pattern.

Here is the reasoning of global warming broken down to something you can understand...tell me which FACT you dispute:

FACT: C02 is real
FACT: C02 traps in heat
FACT: Today was 3 degrees F warmer than yesterday
FACT: Humans give off large amounts of C02
FACT: If we continue at the current pace in a little over 30 days the temperature will be 200 degrees and we will all die

None of those so-called FACTs are disputable except of course the "if"...and global warming theory is exactly that "if the current trend continues" when there is nothing to suggest it will. Mars and Middle Ages has EVERYTHING to do with the question...just like day to day temperature fluctuations don't amount to much...the recent temperature rise on earth, doesn't amount to much in the grand scheme of the life cycle of Earth.

Ed is correct in this much. Whether humans contribute to global warming is questioned, although I believe there is overwhelming evidence that there is some contribution. Just how much is what I don't know, and whether it is significant enough to matter. I'd rather take up environmental issues for other reasons, such as polluted seas, polluted groundwater, air quality, and sustainable energy.

However, as for global warming being a fact, the fact that we are still cyclically coming out of an ice age is enough to say that the world is still warming up to some extent, and a portion of this is natural. If we fix things up, and the world is still heating up, I'll gladly endure the "I told you so" barrage from those who disagreed.

Of course, by nature's plan, we contribute to the production of CO2, but some give far too much credit to man's ability in this production cycle, and, for that matter, our ability to do much to alter this output. We need to awaken and finally understand that this issue is being generated from a certain belief camp which continually advocates a globalistic socialist policy. To propose the limiting of CO2 is to also propose the elimination of plant life on our planet. Without an abundance of CO2, we could forget about the rain forests or even having a vegetable garden. Since humanity depends upon vegetation for life, what you are proposing is an end to the world as we know it. Where do I sign on for that?

I dispute the CO2Traps heat in. The earth even has a hole in the ozone layer in antartica. I also dispute the first one. There is CO2 but it I dont believe it has to do with the earth trapping heat in. Some believe that cow farts atribute to global warming. Im not joking cause of methane. Which is bull.

i watched a documentry on global warming last night and i was apalled by the lack of firm evidence that its our fault and that its actuly any threat to us at all. its obvious from your question that you dont really know that much about the science of it. i mean 'CO2 is real', yeah obviously. its also a completely natural and healthy gas, thats ESSENTIAL to our lives, and has always been present in the atmosphere, and has always varied, with NO significant affect on the earth's temperature. it makes up a small part of the atmosphere, and the planet, naturally, produces the VAST majority of CO2 in the atmosphere. the levels are constantly changing, and what were adding isnt all that significant. also, the temperature has increased recently, but thats not particularly significant, as the temperature is always changing, and during the biggest boom in c02 emissions, about 1940-70 when we started to use on a huge scale, the temperature actuly significantly DECREASED.

i'm not pretending i know it all, and i'm not really sure about the whole issue, but i really recoment you watch this documentry which was on C4 last night, look it up on the internet, i was really shocked and disturbed to think that this idea of global warming was actuly a multi million dollar industry, and it benefits everyone involved to sensationalise the evidence. also, its allowing us to supress the industrialisatoion of third world countries, by not allowing them access to fossil fuels etc.

also it really annoys me when they go on about 'the ice melting' the ice is constantly melting and its COMPLETELY NORMAL for there to be alot of ice melting sometimes, and not so much at other times. its nothing to be alarmed about, and there have been much more severe ice-melting periods (if you know what i mean) and it hasnt had any big scary tidal wave affects at all. also, tsunamis, hurricanesetc HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH temperature or CO2 levels whatsoever, theres no reason to believe these catastrophes are linked to global warming.

the globe warming is nothing to be scared of, its been hot, its been cold. WEVE BEEN FINE!

also, doesnt it seem suspicious to people that the way we actuly got this theory is because everyone freaked out about the globe cooling in the 70s and the government wanted to calm everyone down so they said the fact we produce CO2 might warm up the planet. the government can and will manipulate scientifiv evidence to suit them, margeret thatcher used it as propaganda during the whole mining thing, and at the moment, global warming allows them to exploit the 3rd world as much as possible.

The earth goes through heating AND cooling periods. At the moment we are going through a heating period. It is scientific FACT. Let me guess, you watched Al Gore's movie right?

The only reason that it is such a huge topic at teh moment is because we as a people have the technology to track and record the weather and temeratures like never before. Just wait. In another 50 years everyone will be freaking out about the next Ice Age.

In the same way solar activity such as solar flares causes greatly varied weather changes all over the world, global warming is occurring or will occur in certain places and in other places the temperature will have progressively colder
winters in non-equatorial areas and hotter summers in
places closer to the equator.

Plus, habitat destruction and habitat change definitely impact
the climate because of loss of wetlands and forests. And
like the man said, petroleum-driven vehicles are raising
the temperature, especially in high population areas where the average adult has at least one automobile.

But you have to look at the whole picture. The earth has been going through warming a cooling processes for thousands of years (not heat waves). Yes the amout of CO2 from fossil fuels can't be good, but greenhouse gasses are produced every day by cows, volcanos, and dozens of other natural sources.
